What do you use for scent control

Im just curious what everyone uses for scent control when you are out bowhunting. I dont want to spend the money on Scent Lok or Scent Blocker, so what type of cover scent and what brand do you guys use or what other special tricks do you have. Ive heard of storing your clothes in a rubbermaid container with pine needles ain it. I just thought it would be interesting to hear everyones input on this topic.

Scentblocker clothes in an airtight container, dress at the tailgate of the truck and spray my rubber boots down with Hunter's Specialties Earth spray before I take the hike into the woods.

Sometimes I will carry my jacket as I don't want to perspire going to the stand and create more scent.

Re: What do you use for scent control

I got the kit that comes with Deo, body soap, shampoo, laundry soap, and some of the wafers. I wash my cloths in the scentless soap and then hang them outside to drive. After that I pack them in a plastic tub and put an earth wafer in with them. The morning of the hunt I use the other scent free products and put on minimal cloths and tennis shoes. Once to my hunting area I open the tub and put on my cloths and hunting boats and then spray myself and my bow, pack, and stand. The Kit is cheap and will last a hunting season. If you hunt a lot you may need to get more scent killer spray. This has worked most of the time. Everyone will get busted at some point. I've seen shows where a guy was head to toe in scent blocker, probably a thousand dollars worth, and still get busted. I don't have the budget for that stuff so I make do this way. If you can afford it it does work and can help but if not you work with what you have

I wash all of my clothes in scent free soap and take a shower that morning in scent free soap. I use cover scent wafers in scent proof containers to make my clothes smell like dirt or pine. More importantly I try to play the wind. In the past I hunted from the ground a lot in open country, camo and scent control really doesn't play much part. You just have to move in down wind. I have heard some good things about Dead Down Wind and will give that a try this year.

I shower with Scent-A-Way saop, wash clothes in odor killing detergent or baking soda and store them in a bag inside a plastic container with Fresh Earth scent wafers to inpregnate into my clothes. I use Arm and Hammer unscented deodorant and brush teeth with baking soda. I do have AB SCENT base layer and a Scent Lock Savana siut. I keep my rubber boots CLEAN and spray down with Scent-A-Way spray before going out.

I have a scentlok suit, lightweight for early bow season. I also use H.S. scentaway products to spray down. I keep my suit in an H.S. scent tight bag and also dress at the truck!

Re: What do you use for scent control

First wash your cammo in a carbon wash. Hang them out to dry and leave them out the rest of the season. Mine use to hang in a tree out back but now they will hang in the barn.

Use a bar of Carbon soap and take a shower before going out. Also use HS Deodorant. WEAR RUBBER BOOTS. And I also carry a bottle of Real earth cover spray. I give my entire body and gear a spray before heading out.

Youre good to go. Easy, quick, and cheap. Keep in mind that there is no substatue for playing the wind.

Re: What do you use for scent control

good suggestions from all these guys... heres the low down on scent proof products and how i have used them to help me take a lot of deer and to remain downwind sometimes and get away with it..

wash your clothes in scent proof detergent. dry them in a dryer or hang on the clothes line outside. if you use the dryer, run it through i cycle with nothing in it. then your hunting clothes. i want my clothes to smell neutral, no scent at all..

shower using a scent free soap and deoderant. if you do this and watch the wind , you can get away with a lot ..

some of us like using extra insurance and use scent loc or scent blocker suits. if you get them in camo, they do last along time and are just like regular hunting clothes..

my scent loc jacket and pants and hood are 6 years old. they are still in geat shape and are just as soft as can be..

when you drive to where your going hunting, do not wear your boots you hunt in into the gas sation to buy a coffee or gas up.

keep your boots and gear in a rubber maid container or anything that keeps scent out. i also use a huge coleman cooler.

my hunting clothes stay in it and i mean everything, extra socks, extra hats, belt, underwear, t shirts, wool sweater, everyhting i use for hunting is stored in there.

the other container can be used for tree steps, boots, rattling horns, hunting pack and non hunting clothes items.

never use a cover scent that is not natural to your hunting area. it would be crazy to use pine scent in a hardwoods timber.

be carefull of using any cover scent. i use a HS dirt cover scent, but its a wafer and its on my hat only. it then does not go into my hunting clothes container. it goes back into a sealed bag just for it only..

most of this is common sense, if you keep your clothes clean, shower in unscented soap and watch the wind, you can be very sucessfull.. using scent blocking clothing can and does help , but is not mandatory...
