Deer Attractants

Since I am new to this, I am trying to learn as much as possible about deer hunting. I watch hunting show like crazy. While watching them I see all the advertisments for deer attractants. Do these things work as well as they claim? And are they worth the money? Some are as cheap as $5 and as expensive as $25. What is everyone's opinion?

Re: Deer Attractants

Just my opinion but it's best to hunt where the deer naturally want to be (for whatever reason) rather than try to use some type of commercial attractant to get them to come to where you want them. Better to trust your scouting and personal observations to choose stand locations. If you're not quite right, adjust your set up.

Deer Cane is pretty much used the same as mineral licks. They are mainly used in the hotter months and rarely visited during hunting season. That was our experience anyway. Never used C'Mere Deer before.

Re: Deer Attractants

I prefer to hunt like Rhino suggested, but I have seen Deer Cane work. I was hunting with a friend one time on some land that he had permission for. There was a Deer Cane block about 10 yards from his stand. He had also hung a Pee Willy Wick filled with some kind of estrus scent nearby. A buck came in and walked right by the scent without even sniffing it. The Pee Willy Wick almost hit his antlers and he didn't even pause or wrinkle his knose! He just headed straight for the Deer Cane block when my buddy let him have it.

i used lucky buck. you can buy it at your local agway store. i never thought it would work but i have never seen anything like it. i went on vacation last week and before i left i put some of this stuff out on the bare ground along a trail to a field. i put my digital stealth cam up and i got back it had 270 pics!!! believe it or not but i am not making this up. had 2 big eight points and a 9 point. they dug a hole in the ground 2 or 3 inches deep...LUCKY BUCK is DEFINATELY the way to go.

Re: Deer Attractants

Really depends on what kind of attractants you are talking about. For scents, there are a couple that I use that I will continue to use. Tinks 69 is ok, active scrape in a scrape(mock or real) works well, buck fever synthetics also work well. Best scent I have ever used though was a James Valley scent, it is pretty expensive though.

For minerals to attract deer. Most commercial mixes are effective at attracting deer. Best results I have seen have been from a trophy rock. Deer cain is just ok.
