Re: Help with nocturnal deer!!

i know the feeling....but for me the best thing i do is try and c if they are coming from the same direction everytime you get pics. They are probably getting out of their bedding area before it gets dark but by the time they get to the area where your camera is its dark. Try and find their bedding and setup between there and your camera setup. They might be holding up in a staging area before coming out into your camera setup because it looks quite open and those big nocturnal bucks dont like to get out in the open before the cover of darkness has set in.........thats my 2 cents worth....(p.s. WATCH THE WIND)....GOOD LUCK

if all else fells just wait for the rut...they get a lil dumber!

Re: Help with nocturnal deer!!

if that dont work you might have to get in bed with them, make sure you are completly scent free, and the wind is right, and you might have to be in the stand at least 1.5 to 2 hrs before day light, had an 8 point come in about 15 min before i counld see the ground but heard him, when it was light enough to see is was only 28 yards from me

i would have to agree, id try to find there bedding area or there staging area and get in there about an hr before day light, or dusk you might hear them moving through going to bed before legal shooting light and you can adjust your stand accordingly

Sounds like pretty good advice here, might not hurt to get in more than an hour before legal shooting light if you can. Would also only hunt the bedding or staging areas when the wind is right.

Nice deer! What I tell people during my seminars is to hunt, hunt, and hunt! Watch for weather changes early in the season. Key in on these and be in your hunting area during these peak times. Yes they will show up during the rut... but why not get them early!

Good luck!

Re: Help with nocturnal deer!!

I have 2 bucks i've been watching and they are coming out in the open fields feeding during cloudy dizzly kind of days. Hunt them early in the season on these kind of light rainy days - get the rain gear out too!!!

All of the first guys were right. You have to get as close as you can to their bedding area without spooking them. If the wind is wrong, dont hunt.

You can also set up near their return route near the bedding area in the morning.

Re: Help with nocturnal deer!!

i believe every bowhunter has your problem.... All i know to tell you is to check the times of your photos and see if they're coming right after dark or right before daylight or what and then try to get them coming into or out of their bedding area... don't try anything too risky though cause as you said you are likely to see them come rut...
