Good day / bad day at the range.

Went over to our benchrest this morning to shoot the 220 Swift and the 375 Wby. Shot the Swift first and was pleased to find it's still throwing 5 shots into exactly 1/2 MOA at 100 yards. laugh.gif Then I shot the worst 5-shot group I've shot in a long time with the 375. Tree shots went into 1 1/2" but 2 flyers were 2 inches outside that. frown.gif I'm starting to think it's time to switch powders again. confused.gif

Or are you getting a little punchy with the big gun? It can take some getting used to.

No, it's not that. I'm good and used to taking a whacking and have gotten pretty good at it. I had the front on a Rock Rest and the back in an eared bag full of lead shot. The trigger's plenty good. I've been hearing some "gossip" as to IMR-4320 being about the most erratic powder there is. Don't know the truth to it. But I loaded some with H-414 tonight. Also upped the 4320 a grain and loaded another batch of those. Quite a bit of airspace with the 4320, yet. Dunno if that's helping?? It's definitely a work in progress.

I don't know, I use 4320 in my 17 Rem and it shoots outstanding. Its extremely consistant and gives great speed. Of course its an almost full case also. I like that are at least 90% full case. It usually provides the most consistant burn and best results.

I think I would step up to a slightly slower powder for that cartridge. I like the Vihtavuori line and would try the N150 or N550. Its a little slower than 4320 but slightly faster than 4350. Who knows? Take a ride over the hill to CAC Industries. They carry the stuff.

I did not know that. We get all our birds and shells for trap shooting from them. But my brother always does the running. I've never been to the shop. Actually the mill in Punxsutawney carries Vhitavouri powder and that's about 1/2 the distance. May have to give it a try.
