vagobbln
Re: Scariest [ QUOTE ] Mine would probably have to be the time I almost got shot. [/ QUOTE ] Mine too. Used to be member of a hunt club. We were making drives one day and I had posted in the corner of an old field. No one was "supposed" to be anywhere near me. The deer, a nice buck, came out into the field about halfway from the opposite corner, turned and was running right to me. All of sudden, BOOM-BOOM and I had 00 buckshot whistling all around me, hitting in the trees above my head and whizzing through the grass at my feet. How I didn't get hit, I don't know. One of the other guys (who had done this crap before) had moved after everyone was set. He had gotten in the other corner of the field and when the deer came out in between us he just cut loose. Idiot. Anybody wonder why I'm not in the club anymore?
RangerClay
Re: Scariest I too have been shot at. Once you know what the buzz of a shotgun slug sounds like, you never forget it. We were doing one of our favorite drives. I made the dumb mistake of moving a little without telling anyone. Shortly after the drive began my buddy strated shooting at a deer. The first slug wizzed right by me. The second slammed into the dirt anout 20 yards in front of me. The third in about the same place. I started yelling on the radio for him to stop and he did. I was a little rattled after that.
Guest andymansavage
Re: Scariest We were 10 miles into primitive wilderness on horses for a muzzleloader mulie hunt in an area I wasn't familiar with. The clouds rolled in on us and I got turned around. I was lost for 5 hours and was heading the wrong way. I just sat down and prayed and then headed to the highest point I could see and was able to get radio contact with camp and they brought me a horse. Good thing they did because I took a nasty spill while lost and tweaked my knee. I still ended up hunting another 4 days and had a great time. I now have a GPS unit...... Pics I took while lost. Tired and happy to be found!
Gator
Re: Scariest A couple of years ago I got lost in an area I had never been in. I somehow ended up on the other side of a dry creek bed I couldn't cross. I walked out to a road, and a pumper picked me up, think I was a good 2 miles from my truck. When I was 15 I fell about 6 feet from a ladder stand we had set up that morning, I shifted, so did the stand, and down I went. Last time was a couple af years ago also. I was up in my climber, it was getting dark, and when I started climbing down, I kept going UP!! I had new boots, and for some reason they wouldn't "grab" the strap in my climber. Also, dang coyotes started howling in the area. After that, I learned how to hook me feet into the side of my climber. Then there was the time I walked up on a copperhead right at dark, that wasn't much fun. Introduced him to a .50cal ML.

shockwave
Re: Scariest this one diddn`t happen to me. How many of my fellow pennsylvanians, are familar with Pymatuning ?? Theres a strip of rocks that seperates the spillway, and the main part of the lake. A couple of my buddies decided that they were going to fish on the strip of rocks, the weather changed it got really rough and 2 of them got knocked into the water, and one of them diddn`t know how to swim, luckily the guy that diddn`t knocked in grabbed him by his ponytail, and pulled him back up, a very scary situation, which nearly put me into cardiac arrest, my personal scariest, i was hanging a treestand and the branch i was standing on broke, thank god for a safety harness 25 feet straight down. stevebeilgard
Re: Scariest i was hunting sheep, and lost my footing on a shale slide. i couldn's stop, and i knew a 500' drop awaited me over a ledge. as i neared it and was 20' from going over. i was making my peace with god, and telling my wife i love her. then, i saw an arm reaching out for me. it was my friend stacey, who was coming up to where me and my guide were as a surprise. he literally saved my life. TexasDeerHunter
Re: Scariest Hunting down in Laredo just a few yards from the Rio Grande. The night before Border Patrol agents busted drug runners about 100yds from camp. Sitting in the stand before daylight and after dark waiting on the guide to pick you up knowing that there could be some unfriendly Mexican drug runners out there looking to shoot iy out with you, and you are a sitting duck. BowJoe
Re: Scariest A few years back, I was climbing with an old summit stand and it was the bowhunter kind with just an open seat to lean on or pull your lower body up with. I didn't like how the stand was facing and about 14 feet up, I tried to adjust the platform by putting the sides of my boots on the outside of it and moving it over a few inches. As soon as I put my feet on the sides, the platform fell all the way to the base and I was stuck sitting on the seat only. I ended up jumping from 14 feet up and my knee went up to my chest. It ended up swelling to the size of a volleyball and I couldn't take my test for prison corrections. LImped over to my buddy and he helped me to the truck. One other time, I was getting dropped off at my stand by the Wabash and I only had maybe a 50 yd walk to my tree. Just as I got 20 yds to my tree, I shined my flashlight to the field in front of me and heard a pack of maybe 10 or more coyotes. They sounded like they were only 100 yds or less away and I suddenly forgot where my tree was. I finally found it and got up to the platform in record time. Scared to death, I saw at least 3 coyotes that day. i only brought 3 arrows with me and I didn't want to risk needing all of them that day.
