Strut10
Back to the bench this morning with 2 more batches of reloads. Another grain of IMR-4320 (81.0 gr) turned in 2945 fps and a 5.0" 5-shot group at 100 yards. The second batch was 92.0 gr. of H-414 at 2965 fps and printed a 1.4" 5-shot group at 100 yards. Now, that's more like what I'm talkin' about! More work to do. But, I'll be able to sleep at night with those initial results.
OJR
Re: Much better day at the range Looking pretty good! Probably a little more fine tuning and you should get it just right! Good luck!!
AJ
Re: Much better day at the range More better! Looks like it is comming together. Now see how it will average. It does not seem to be a maximum load as the velocity only jumped 20 fps with a grain increase in powder. You may still have room to go up. I have not given up on the 4320 yet. There's no signs of pressure and I still have some airspace to get rid of. So I've already got another batch of those loaded (a bit heavier) and ready to go. The H-414 load, although, supposedly 1 gr. under max, seems pretty darned hot. No cratering on the primers. But they are flattening moderately. Also threw a batch together with some IMR-4350, too. Hope it's not as dog-slow as the Accurate Arms XMR-4350 was.
OJR
Re: Much better day at the range Have you tried any Reloader 22? That is all that a friend of mine uses in his 7 mag with 160 grain bullets. He is shooting 1" groups at 100 yards. I don't know how many grains he is loading with it! Strut10
Re: Much better day at the range [ QUOTE ] Have you tried any Reloader 22? [/ QUOTE ] Reloader 22 is a little on the slow-burning side for this round. It's different from the other magnums I've loaded for thus far. It burns a ton of powder. But it's got a really big hole to shove it all out. So it takes a faster burning powder than, say, a 7mm STW or a .300 Ultra-Mag type case. Reloader 15 or 19 ought to be good choices, though. And I aim to try them before this experiment is all over.
