Re: SC Coast Buck

Man!! We've got planty of deer running around campus, and for the most part they are used to people around, but I can never get closer than about 10 yards. Yesterday evening I saw 3 does and 2 fawns, still with spots, one was a little bigger and the spots were fading, the other was tiny with bright white spots, must've been a late conception. Of course, I did not have my camera with me last night. frown.gif

That is cool!!! Was it wild? Or maybe used to the people at the camp.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, they are wild, but I guess they are use to humans. He said they fed a bunch of doe's right out of their hands and on the last day of the trip was fortunate enough to have his camera when this big boy walked up.

don't mean to sound rude but is that as big of bodied dear you guys get there? seems really short. don't get outa iowa much!

How big would you be if you lived outside in 100 degree temps for Half the year, and lows usually only dipping into the 50's in the coldest of winter? It drives me crazy when Northerners compare "their deer" to the deer down South. Ok, enough venting! tongue.gif

We Southerners have some pretty big deer, despite the harsh summers. They are just few and far between.

I've always wondered why the southern deer are smaller since they have food available year round. You'd think they would be enormous. But it's true, the summers here are volatile. I'm sure it drains the life right of them. Oh well.

They're still just as much fun to hunt. And when you DO get a monster, it's really something to talk about. Simply because it ISN'T as commonplace as it is up North. smirk.gif

Great picture and a great rack on a small deer! cool.gif

I would hate to shoot that one with my 270 or 308! I don't think there would be much left! Forget a magnum! frown.giftongue.gif

You'd be surprised. A .308 is what I use. When done correctly, it does very little damage to the meat. smirk.gif
