I've been Squirrel Hunting a few times, and have seen better seasons. Last year was the worst I've seen since 1981. This year is slightly better, but no banner year. I've noticed there are fewer Hickory Nuts, Walnuts, and the Beech nuts are a little "skimpy" too. I've shot a few Squirrels out of Acorn, Poplar, and Black Gum Trees so far. I have also noticed that the follage is much more thicker than usual. My Brother says it due to the fact they bared heavy last year. Maybe thinks will improve somewhat later in the season. confused.gif

Jim,

Where I hunt, up near Glendale F&W Area, and on my own 15 acres, in Vanderburgh County; I've noticed that most of the Squirrels are in the cornfields. Got most of my Squirrels by sitting in the woods boardering a cornfield. What they are doing is filling up with corn then entering the woods and lying on a limb in tall trees. The Follage is very thick and since they aren't moving once they position themselves in the trees, it is difficult to see them. I was using a .22 Rifle but have switched to my .410 S/S at least untill the leaves thin out latter on in the season. It is very Hot & Humid in SW Indiana, and the only time it is cool enough is between sunrise and 9:00 am. Bugs are terrible this year too! <Good Luck with your Squirrel Season!> smile.gif
