I am interested in a browning bps 10 guage. I was wondering how much more recoil is it gonna have than my benelli nova. Any comments would be appreciated.

Re: recoil of a 10 guage

It depends on what ammo you are comparing it with. Shooting 12 ga 3.5" mags in the Nova is stout recoil. The 10 ga BPS will be similar when using the same payload of shot. The BPS is a lot heavier so it soaks more recoil but the big heavy loads of lead or Hevi Shot surpass what the 12 ga is capable of. They thump. I had the BPS 10 ga and it was a decent gun. I personally don't like the bottom eject port. I did shoot a box of 5 slugs through it. I do not suggest doing that. It HURTS!

Re: recoil of a 10 guage

The BPS 10ga. is not for everybody.

Bear in mind, the heavier the payload, the worse the recoil. steel shot is bad, but tolerable. 2 oz. lead loads are no fun, but they're bearable. 2 1/4 oz. loads are, pretty much, horrible.

Gun weight is also a factor. My gun started out as a 30" barrel gun. I had it shortened to 23 1/2". The recoil impulse is a good bit worse now than it was with the longer tube. The weight loss was not too great by removing 7" of barrel or so............maybe 1/2 lb. But, there's a very noticable difference in recoil.

Your best bet would be to find one you could try out. Shoot it and see if it's for you. They are an amazing animal in the field........turkeys, geese, coyotes...............they shoot like a monster.

Many people will tell you a 3 1/2" 12 ga. will shoot just as well and kick just as hard. WRONG. I've shot lots and lots of different 3 1/2" 12's. Some have come reasonably close to shooting with my BPS 10. But none have matched it. And as for recoil.........I've yet to find a 12 that'll hit me like my 10. It's the only gun I own I can honestly say I DO NOT enjoy shooting more than a handful of shots out of.

Re: recoil of a 10 guage

I started useing a single shot 10ga 2 1/4 oz loads (no big deal) there was more recoil but nothing I couldn't handle then I decided to buy a browning gold 10ga ... if you can handle a 1 1/2 oz load in a pump 12 ga the semi 10 is a peice of cake ...one of my freinds shoots the BPS 10 ga he says the only thing he don't like is the "BANG" LOL recoil he said is no issue confused.gif

Re: recoil of a 10 guage

Thanks for the info yall. My super 12 nova does not bother me at all, unless i put turkey loads in them. Then i can feel the recoil. But I guess I will just have to live with the recoil on that 10 guage. I cant afford a 10 guage auto. The pump is the only thing that I can afford, and I dont really like semi-autos. I shoot 3 1/2 " hv goose loads, and they do not bother me at all. I am gonna get me a reactar pad sewed into my hunting jacket so I can handle the recoil. THank yall so much for the info.

Well i cant help you out with the BPS 10 but i just bought a browning gold 10 its awsome it doesnt kick much at all!!! i Have shot just about everything through it, 1 3/4 oz slugs 1 7/8oz steel shot and 2 1/4 oz turkey load, it shoots everything great. Anyways its a very pricey gun but i absolutly love it and recommend it. I'd rather shoot skeet with it that my rem 870 12,lol. well goodluck with getting a gun
