NEF 45 Long Colt

Any ideas on ballistics for this cartrige in factory loads? I've been wanting to get my daughter a low recoil 40-50 yard gun for deer. I'm leaning heavy toward the 223, but saw this survivor came in 45lc and I could get it for about $50 less than the 223.

I got on line and looked for about an hour and couldn't find anything that gave factory load ballistics on the 45LC. I found plenty for hand loading, but that doesn't do me any good.

Does anyone have any experience with these guns or shooting the 45LC in a 20" barrel?

BTW I already have a 243, so please don't suggest that one. tongue.gif

Re: NEF 45 Long Colt

Just by judging how effective my .44 mag is at 50-100 yds. I'd go with the 45 LC.

Shot placement is always the biggest factor, but I think that the knock-down power of the .45 LC would give a little more room for error, and to be honest I simply don't think .223 is a big enough bullet for deer unless the shot is exact.

Re: NEF 45 Long Colt

There are a couple manufacturers that offer +P ammo for the 45 LC. Cor-Bon, Grizzly, Buffalo Bore, are a few that offer +P rounds. They are top quality ammo and are not cheap. They will have some moderate recoil also. Not over whelming, but not like a .223 though.
