What is your claim to fame?

My only claim to fame.

I grew up and went to public school with James Cameron, the famous Hollywood producer who coined the phrase "I'm King of the world" after winning an award for "The Titantic"

Jimmy is on the far right, and that's me beside him.

All four of us, Pat, Reta, Jimmy and myself, painted this Mural for Centenial year 1967. It hangs now in the Public Library in Niagara Falls.

Here's Jimmy today (well, a few years ago...lol)

My Grandpa was a WWII POW for almost two years in Germany. Stalag 17

They made a movie about the camp he was in, and he was part of the escape attempt.

Don't know if they are "Claims to Fame", but here is what I got.

Family traces back to Kit Carson

Once stood and sang on the stage of the Grand Ol Opry. I was only 11 or 12, but hey I was there.

Shot in a Archery tournament with Travis Turner, Matt Morrett, and Lee and Tiffany grin.gif

Anybody who lives in Northern NY is familiar with the Great Adirondack Tragedy. In fact this year is the 100th annivesary and they have published just this year another book based upon the story.

My Grandmother was Grace's cousin and used to live just down the street from her.

Mine would be my grandfather. He was pretty popular back in his day as a country music singer/musicsian/songwriter. He had a morning TV show on the east coast that ran for over 30 years. His name is Arthur Smith and he wrote and recorded the famous song "Dueling Banjos". You can read more about my granddad here...

Re: What is your claim to fame?

My cousin was engaged to Jennifer Capriati for 6 yrs. I met her a few times and talked to her on the phone a couple times because my cousin gave her my # to get ahold of him.

My home town is the place where the last legal hanging took place. His name was Charlie Birger and he tried to kill the mayor of West City which is a little town that's considered Benton. He was a ganster and feuded with the Shelton gang. The KKK was actually considered the "Good" guys because they quelled some of the fighting. WHen I was a Senior in High School, I was asked by the Franklin Co. Historical Society to come up with the schematics for a replica of the Gallows Birger was hanged from. I got to use the Original photos from 1932 as well as some blowups. They were built and I didn't even get my name on the plaque that tells who all contributed to the effort. They used the same trap door as well.

Jon Malkovich and Doug Collins are from my home town and I have met both. My neighbor growing up is Jon Malkovich's aunt and I met Doug Collins a few times while in high school.

My County was the sight of one of the worst coal mine disasters in history and was featured on the history channel. 119 people were killed on Dec. 21st. 1951 and my friend's grandpa was killed in the disaster as well.

My home town was the first town any Beatle ever performed in America. George Harrison's sister lived next to the high school and her home is now a Bed and breakfast called, "A Hard Day's Night Inn" He jammed with my ex-fiance's uncle the summer before they Officially came to America and the rest is history. He visited any time they got close to the area and he performed a few of their first hits before anyone else had heard them since Harrison wrote them.

Not really MY claims to fame but interesting items.

Re: What is your claim to fame?

I have two. The first is that I've been on CNN and MSNBC. Second, I am a single man and I was able to convence the State of Indiana to approve an adoption 3 years ago. My son is four now. That's the one nearest my heart. I've been looking for a girl for two years now. Came close last year with a young girl who didn't want to keep her baby. Parents ended up taking her. Can't say much about that.

That's pretty cool Steve. You ever think about getting in touch with him. Maybe he's got a part set aside just for you. smirk.gif
