Re: What is your claim to fame?

This is actually a pretty cool thread. Get to know a little bit more about our fellow realtree friends.

As far as myself, well, my Grandmother is a descendent of Mary Queen of Scots. I went to middle school with Daunte Culpepper of the Miami Dolphins. One of my good friends, my pastors son from back home, Jonathan Johnson, was a pitcher for the Texas Rangers, Padres, and Astro's. (His first MLB strikeout was against Ken Griffey Jr.) John Travolta lives in my hometown. I've met former FL governor Bob Martinez, future (at the time) FL gov. Jeb Bush, Bob Dole, and Oliver North.

I was once in a TV commercial back home for my mom's ex-husbands computer store. I was also in a Christian youth special that I never got a chance to see. I also almost caught a Brady Anderson home run ball at Camden Yards, in the replay I could see the top of my head going towards the ball.

I'm also getting ready to have the wildlife pics I took at the college I work at published in a magazine the college puts out.

my grandfather was an aviation pioneer, working with the wright brothers. he was an ace in the 1st ww, and invented flaps, leading edge slats, and retractable landing lights on airplanes. he also invented the L-5 beco brown, now the L-5 stinson. got lots of neat photos & stories. maybe part of my love of flying. he died in his plane in '44, and i was born in 47, so pics are all i have.

No claim to fame here.

My grandfather and his brothers were pretty big in the coal mining industry in West Virginia and Pennsylvania. Was told my grandfather knew Lawerence Welk very well, and even went fishing with him, but not sure of the validity of that.

[ QUOTE ]

My cousin was engaged to Jennifer Capriati for 6 yrs. I met her a few times and talked to her on the phone a couple times because my cousin gave her my # to get ahold of him.

You don't still know how to get in touch with her do you. I had a major crush on her when I was 13 and she was just turning pro. grin.gif

Re: What is your claim to fame?

I have a few off the top of my head.

I worked for one week for Unsolved Mysteries when they did a shoot across from my house. I have tons of stuff left from that.

Also, one of my direct Decendents was the first and only person to Die while protecting a President (Truman). He is burried in Arlington. Infact there is a building, Coffelt Hall, in Washington.

My last name is actually my biggest claim to fame. It houses countless ministers, famous people, candy companies, etc. We have a genealogy book about my last name, Coffelt.

Also, my parents had the kid from Green Acres (cant remember his name) stay with them a couple of years ago. True story. They bumped into him somewhere, he introduced himself, they invited him to visit some time... he did. Kind of odd to see a member from the cast of Green Acres sleeping in the spare bedroom.... grin.gif

Re: What is your claim to fame?

I'm the oldest grandson (of three) of U.S. Congressman W.C. "Dan" Daniel. He represented the 5th District of Virginia from 1969 until his untimely passing in 1988. Provided me with some neat opportunities as a youngster including meeting President Ford in the Rose Garden. He was also the National Commander of the American Legion before he was elected to Congress. Known as "Daniel Boone" to his three grandsons, I still miss him to this day.
