FSU_Seminole
Re: Remington Deer Rifles [ QUOTE ] Does anyone here use a model 700 Remington for deer hunting? What model CDL,BDL<etc and caliber do you like? Are they decent rifles? [/ QUOTE ] I have 3 Remington rifles. .270 bolt stainless, 06 bolt stainless & a 06 7400 semi auto. They are great guns, they've shot accurately out of the box & I haven't a problem with any of them. Just regular routine cleaning & oiling & they've been done great for me. The only rifles I would even consider buying are Remington, Browning, Tikka & Sako.
OJR
Re: Remington Deer Rifles [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] That is all I used to use! Remington, model 700ADL, 270 caliber! Shot a lot of animals with it! I shot the barrel out! I had it rebarreled and it never shot as good! I sold it! [/ QUOTE ] How many shots did you have thru it? What part of the barrel was shot out, the throat? Never heard of someone shooting the barrel out of a huntig .270 [/ QUOTE ] I quit counting when I had run about 4,000 rounds through it! The throat and the rifling for about 2 1/2" beyond it was gone! Needless to say, the accuracy went straight south!

TexasDeerHunter
Re: Remington Deer Rifles 4,000 rounds through a hunting rifle is a bit much. I don't know of any production rifle that could handle that much shooting. If you re-barrel and it is not shooting then you may have not used a quality barrel or needed to have the stock re-worked to fit the new barrel. I have seen several bad shooting guns start shooting great after the stock gets a little work. You can't go wrong with a Remington.
OJR
Re: Remington Deer Rifles [ QUOTE ] wow, did you clean the bore out good after every so many shots? [/ QUOTE ] I clean my rifle real often when I am shooting from the bench or sighting it in! No more than 10 shots and I will clean it good with a solvent that is good for removing copper! I will keep cleaning until there is not any blue or black on the patches at all. When I had the rifle rebarreled, I put another Remington barrel on it. The best I got with it was a group that was 1 1/2" for 3 shots. Before with the original barrel, I could get groups that would measure 3/8" for 3 shots! Both barrels were floating and it had a synthetic factory stock! Like I said, when I couldn't get better groups, I traded it off and got a new rifle! snapper
Re: Remington Deer Rifles I think a Remington rifle would make a good deer rifle. However, I think your paying for a name...I feel there are as good if not better guns on the market for less or around the same price. Like Strut said, go looking and feeling, ask around to friends or family to see what other people have and see if you can shoot theirs...then form your own opinion before you slap down hard earned money! Jeramie
Re: Remington Deer Rifles Ive hunted with Rem rifles for several years. I sold my 700adl, 30-06. That thing smoked the deer. It was a great rifle. I still have an old 742 in 30-06. Its a great rifle but a bit heavy. I plan on buying another bolt 30-06 and it will once again be a Rem 700 but in the BDL. bearcat
Re: Remington Deer Rifles I have 3 Remington model 700's. BDL SS in 30-06, BDL in 7mm Remington Mag. and LSS in .300 Ultra Mag. The Model 700 has always been my favorite rifle. They look great and shoot great. As far as mass produced factory rifles go, you can't beat the model 700. I am currently saving up for my fourth model 700. It will either be an XCR in .300 Win. Mag. or a Stainless Fluted Sendero II in .300 Ultra Mag. TexasDeerHunter
Re: Remington Deer Rifles You can buy a lot cheaper rifles , but I disagree that you are paying for the Remington name. They have for several years produced the most accurate out of the box rifles. I think if you buy a Browning then you are paying for the name. Remington is the oldest gun maker in America and IMO has perfected the bolt action rifle. There is a very good reason why our military snipers use a Remington rifle. The bolt is the strongest on the market. There are alot of other good gun makers out there but you simply can't go wrong with a Rem 700. Great quality and value. [/ QUOTE ] Your intitled to your opinion...however, I'd put a Savage (outta the box) up against any factory Rem. 700. And the Savage will be cheaper. [ QUOTE ] There is a very good reason why our military snipers use a Remington rifle. [/ QUOTE ] We are talking about deer rifles...for the most part, any gun on the market will fit that bill. Don't get me wrong, I don't think Rem. is a bad gun...I just know for my hard earned dollar, I'd rather by a Savage and use the extra $ I saved towards better glass on top. AJ
Re: Remington Deer Rifles [ QUOTE ] There is a very good reason why our military snipers use a Remington rifle. [/ QUOTE ] This is not exactly true. The M40 and M24 sniper rifles are based on Remington actions, but thats all. Remington's rifles are not even close to that level. I am a Rem 700 fan. I have quite a few of them. They provide a great platform to build a decent shooting gun. Best out of the box...well, I hope you are not laying money on that statement. I have a Weatherby Mark V that is just as good, if not a little better than those. These are all producion guns. I don't own a new savage, just a few older model 99's but I believe most production guns can shoot great groups. I do like Remington though. Idaho_ Elk_ Huntr
Re: Remington Deer Rifles Well the 700 is my favorite out of the box rifle. This is from my new 700 APR 300 ultra @ 200 yards. Not a bad shooter!
TexasDeerHunter
Re: Remington Deer Rifles Let me just say that in my experience they have proven to be the most accurate out of the box. Remington actually advertises that they are. I have owned several brands and have had the best results from the Remington's. As far as my comment on the sniper weapons I was pointing toward the Remington bolt used not neccessarily the barrel or complete gun. Don't get me wrong, I know that there are several rifles that shoot well out of the box. I just have had better luck with the Remington rifles. I might be willing to put money on a couple of my rifles against some other production guns, but it most likely would come down to the shooter and not the rifle. But, I'm pretty careful to not make broad generalizations from there.
AJ
Re: Remington Deer Rifles Good point guys. I will have to say that the one most accurate out of the box deer rifle for me was the NEF Handi Rifle. Does that mean all of them shoot he best? Nope, just a sample of one. We have all seem very accurate guns from many manufacturers. To make a blanket statement that one particular brand is better is kind of ignorant. Unless they guarantee accuracy out of the box, one is as likely to shoot as well as the other.

TexasDeerHunter
Re: Remington Deer Rifles I agree that I should have used a better selection of words and not made such a blanket statement. I did not base my opinion on Remington's advertisement. I based it on experience. For Remington to be bold enough and run adds that claim they are the most accurate out of the box rifle, well they must have some pretty convincing research. Not to say that you won't find a few bad apples now and then , but overall they have been great to me. Now the Remington Model 710 I can not speak for , but the 700's I am sold on. JPGS22
Re: Remington Deer Rifles I love remington rifles, I've got a model seven .260 great deer caliber, 700 LVSF in a 22-250 coyote buster, 700 BDL SS .300 elk gun, and I just bought a BDL SS .270 for deer. I think remington rifles are the best, but it depends on what you like.
