Guest okie
Hey guys, I want to plant a little food plot back in the timber on one of my leases. This area gets little sun and has a lot of oak leaves on the ground. I will be tilling this area up so the leaves will be mixed with the soil. My question is what would grow good in this situation, I'm thinking wheat or oats. I have not got my soil samples back yet.
ousoonerfan22
Re: Need some suggestions. Are you getting some rain right now in Coweta?I hope so I need to disk up a plot on my brother-in-laws property which is east of Coweta. Do you think the area in the timber gets enough sun for clover to grow there?
wtnhunt
Re: Need some suggestions. Going to be planting a mini plot in the woods where I recently cleared the brush and small trees out of the spot, gets a minimal amount of sunlight down there. Will be using a winter blend from hamann farms in that spot. Will be using wintergrazer rye adn wheat on the hillside and in the more shaded areas along the trail. Might get some pics of my progress today if I get back there.
LETMGROW
Re: Need some suggestions. If you have access to a landscape rake I would suggest you clear the area as much as possible before tilling. We have an area in the Apple orchard on our lease which is partially shaded upon which we planted brassicas. They have actually grown better than some we planted in the open fields. We think perhaps the wind isn't getting to the plot as much and the moisture isn't being drawn out of the soil as much as the open field plots. We put quite a bit of effort in these plots, going through all the proper steps. The plots were planted 7/25 and as of 8/19 the brassicas are about 10 inches high. We used Shot- Plot by Evolved Harvest.
