VTbowman
I just fletched up a dozen this past weekend and tried out my right helical clamps since I have 6 of them and 2 straights on 3 test arrows. At 1st I planned to do a moderate right offset for the blazers. Since my jig was set up for the right helical for long feathers I just went that way. Lazy I guess. LOL My thought were-More production. LOL With the blazers being so short the helical is not a dominate hard twist but did have a bit to it so I went that way. I figured it can't hurt and my bow was shooting very well out of the gate so I fletched the rest up that way. Anyone else do this yet? LifeNRA
Re: Blazer and helical? I read some posts over in Archery Talk that some were having them not sticking very good, because of the helical. But, I believe if you keep the clamp on there long enough that they might have a better chance on staying on the shaft with the helical. Might take longer to fletch them up. VTbowman
Re: Blazer and helical? Had them all fletched with 1/2 a day with about 30 minutes dry time per vane. I let them sit over night before shooting them. So far no issues. I did fletch them to wraps too, not just bare shafts..
LifeNRA
Re: Blazer and helical? Yeah they should stay on better! With my 3 degree right offset I only let them in the jig for about 30 seconds! After they sit over night, then is when I add a drop of glue to the ends, then I let them sit over night again. I think with a longer curing time they hold much better. Never had one come off yet! Shot them off but never came off on their own!
VTbowman
Re: Blazer and helical? I also add the drop on the front and back of each vane. I did this before I shot the WB, just seemed the smart thing to do. LOL
Straight Shooter
Re: Blazer and helical? Let me give you a little insight about these fletchings not sticking to good on the shafts. A lot of this due to the clamp leaning forward because of the fletchings being shorter and lower profile at the base of the fletching. I take another blazer and tape inside the clamp at the opposite end. This allows the clamp to rest level at both ends and allows the fletching to maintain full contact with the shaft while the glue is drying. Doesn't have anything to do with more curing time or how long you leave the clamp on.

This is a good point and I forgot to mention it..

But this is good to know if I need in the future. I thought more time in the clamp while the glue dries would help! Oh well!
VTbowman
Re: Blazer and helical? I would think it would be the same for a straight clamp as well since the vane is so short and only on one side of the clamp. I did not try to fit a straight so I may be wrong. LifeNRA
Re: Blazer and helical? Not sure either! LOL! When I go to glue the vane to the shaft, I just push it down until I make contact accross the entire base. Hold it there for about 30 seconds and pull it off. They hold like crazy for me! This has never caused me any problems yet! But like I said, I never shot helicals, nor re-fletched them. Using a WB rest your going to loose some speed on your arrow. But with blazers, I doubt it will be much less than a normal 4" vane. But I am glad StraightShooter came in here, because I learned something! Just incase I do buy a helical clamp in the future! Guest GregE
Re: Blazer and helical? Oh ,yeah. Why not get the most efficiency from your fletch? Helical Blazers shot from 30 yards 2 Snuffer SS, 1 Stinger and a field point. I chickened out shooting more- too many vanes and shafts sliced in previous years. .
