I'm sure many of you know and remember our friend and forum member Karen Mongosa "ksm", who was hospitalized not too long ago, with cancer taking over her body.

I was just informed today by Shane, her loving son, that she passed away on August 07.

She has been very ill for the past couple of years, but this past year, and the cancer took it's toll on her.

She had to pull out of the deer contest last year, because she was just too ill to get out hunting, and she so much wanted to be part of it.

Her last post in the forums was on 11/24/05.

We will all miss you Karen. You weren't just another forum member to me personally, you were my friend, and I'll miss the little private chats we used to have.

Karen loved this forum a lot, and even got her son Shane (IBO_bowhunter )involved. She did complain about him hoggin the computer though ...LOL.

My heart and my prayers are with you Shane and Family. I know how much she will be missed by us all.

QUOTES & Hunting Tips from Karen:

Makin a name for ourselves

"I've been hunting for 20 plus years, and as far as impressing anyone, there is no one to impress. My husband doesn't hunt at all. When my son turned 10, I started taking him coon hunting with me. and from there we progressed on up. My son Shane is now 33, so don't worry about what others might think. Just do it for you.

Now it seems we just strictly deer hunt I enjoy that more than anything

your friend karen "

Who sits in a stand all day?

"I sit all day especially opening morning of shot gun. I pack a snack and a bottle of dew and I'm ready. Dummies usually push a lot of deer our way so you really hate to leave. My son found that out when he heard me shoot, got out of his stand and headed across the field to me to see what I got. When he did I sat in my stand and watched a big buck run right under his stand, so you never know.

"My son stays till about 10:00 am, and then he wants to get down and walk around. We have radios, so we are in contact at all times. It's important to know where everyone is.

I think the bigger bucks are smart they know when the hunters leave the woods, so between 10 and 2 they start cruisin. The big buck I got laid down and waited until all the firing stopped then got up. I'm sure glad I was still there, because he got the surprise of his life

scent wick tip

"Have you ever got ready to go hunting and found out that you did't have any more wicks? Well heres a real tip, if your man enough to use them. Buy a box of Tampax or steal your wife's. They work real good in a pinch and come already with a handy string to tie them to the branch wink.gifgrin.gif LOL Just thought you fellows would enjoy a useful tip from karen"

where does everyone like to hang there stands

"I like mine, just inside the woods about 30 yards

Karen"

This was Karen

Karen loved hunting. She lived for the season to open every year, and she always told me how much she loved hunting with her son Shane, and how close hunting has brought them together.

Karen loved gun and archery season. It didn't matter to her, because she was into both.

Karen was quite the gal.
