Re: shotgun for daughter

Check out the link I've attached below.

I was in the same boat with my 7 year old daughter. Recoil was my fear. So I went the muzzleloader route, which is what a lot of guys have done for the kids as recoil can be tamed easier. Plus it is a two season gun.

Rossi is one of the few that makes a true youth sized gun. Everything is scaled down, not just the stock. Give it a look, especially for the money.

Rossi M.L.

Re: shotgun for daughter

My oldest daughter was shooting a muzzleloader with a downcharged load at about age 7. She had her first hunt with the ml at age 8 and had opportunuties, but did not ever take a shot. Last year at 9 she killed her first deer with a .243. Dont know about rifles in Indiana. If you want a shotgun might look at the 870 youth deer shotgun in a 20 gauge.

We tried the fit on youth models (all of 'em) and they were still to big. We're going to try the muzzleloader fit this weekend. (Rifles are no-no in IN). What kind of load do you guys think for .50 cal?

[/ QUOTE ]

My oldest daughter was shooting my .50 black diamond with 85 grains of pyro pushing a 240 grain xtp mag. Like I mentioned somewhere before in here she actually preferred shooting the ml over the wifes .243 at that time. Now that she has her own .243 she always wants to shoot her gun.

btw, my daughter at the time she started shooting was pretty small. She weighed probably no more than 55-60 lbs when she started shooting the ml.

Re: shotgun for daughter

Look at the Rossi M.L. that I refered to. You can buy it as a stand alone gun or in a combo. My daughter is 7 and it fits her just fine. She has not shot it yet, as we have been WAY to busy this summer. But the fit is great for her.

Stand alone gun I think you'll pay around $150 for. As a triple combo like I got you'll pay anywere from $220 to $280 depending on where you find it.

Do any of the "marts" carry the Rossi, or do I have to go to the big guys?

[/ QUOTE ]

They prob. could order one for you....however, special order guns are more expensive than they should be. Prob. would be further ahead to go to a small gun shop and order one...Rossi's aren't very expensive guns.

Gander Mountain in Dayton, Oh has the Rossi Youth .410 alone for $80 and combo (.22) for $120. The Dicks Sporting Goods in the area carrys the combo for $99 year round.
