Ph gain

Recommended Posts

I was watching a hunting show this morning and saw this product at the shot show. It will increase the ph to 7.0 in 72 hours guranteed. it is made by harvest (evolved habitat) a 1 gallon bottle will treat 1/2acre field(it = 1000lbs of lime). It only costs $14 I think I might give it a try with my fall plot b/c i haven't had enough money for the lime for my little acre field. I will let you know how it works. here is a website to buy it

Re: Ph gain

Unless you are planting alfalfa, there is no reason to increase soil pH to 7.0. Most foodplot species are happy with pHs in the 6's. For a fall plot, your best species are the fast growing grains (rye, oats, wheat), and these species thrive at a pH of about 5.8, and really don't do well at near-neautral pHs.

Does this product have a dosage rate based on the current soil pH of your site and the soil type (sand, silt, clay)? If not, I would wonder how the same amount of the product could raise both a sandy soil of pH 5.5 and a clay of 6.5 to 7.0.

For $14 it might be worth a shot, but I would recommend testing it in a very small area first and only applying it to ground that is not yet planted. If there is the equivalent of 1000 lbs of lime in one gallon, it may be too strong to apply to a planted plot.

Good luck, and let us know how it works. . . I have some sandy soil where clover burns up during dry years that I would love to get some alfalfa on, but the pH is way too low. If this stuff works for you, I'll try it too.
