Re: FFG vs FFFG

How fine Black Powder is indicated how many "F's" they put on the container. Coarse granulations are called "FG or FFG" (aka "1Fg" and "2Fg"). Finer granulations are "FFFg and "FFFFg" (aka 3Fg and 4Fg).

The more "F's", the finer the Black Powder... and the finer the Black Powder is, the faster it burns.

I dont know what could be causing your Flask not to allow the powder to flow other than possibly the opening being smaller for a finer granulation of BP than your attempting to use and it's just getting clogged.

Re: FFG vs FFFG

90 gr is 90 gr but as Gary had said FFG burns slower than FFFG so to burn all of lets say 90 gr of FFg it may take a longer barrel than 90 gr of FFFG does to burn completely.

FFFG as compared to the same volume of FFg will increase the pressure in the barrel tremendously.

You can fine tune your MLs accuracy with FFFG due to particle size but generally it's not needed or necessary.

I think sometimes guys, not all, who tend to use FFFG are guys who like to feel special. Or at least feel special to themselves. I like ot use what freinds use so that when I need powder, I got it!

Re: FFG vs FFFG

Gator, I found this out on the Web. It's the same thing thats stated in my owners manual for my BP rifle wink.gif

What are the different blackpowder granulations and which one should I use?

Answer: When using authentic blackpowder it is very important to use the correct granulation for your particular gun. Using the wrong granulation can be extremely dangerous and lead to severe injury or death. There are four types of blackpowder available:

FG (1F) - Is used in large gauge shotguns and cannons.

FFG (2F) - Is used in most muzzleloading shotguns, large bore rifles, and pistols .45 caliber and larger.

FFFG (3F) - Is used in rifles and pistols .44 caliber and below and all revolvers.

FFFFG (4F) - Is used only for priming flintlocks.
