dogdoc
Re: Walmart bow I know it seems when you go to Wal-Mart and purchase a bow you're saving money--but actually it will end up costing a rookie more. You buy the bow--then you have to take it to a pro-shop to get it tuned. Then you realize the bow isn't the right draw length and you end up developing bad shooting habits--which ends up in poor accuracy--which ends up in pure frustration. Trust me--go to a pro-shop and get your bow there--even a good quality used bow is a better deal at a pro-shop then purchasing one at Wal-Mart. good luck todd

TexasDeerHunter
Re: Walmart bow Try a Bowtech or Diamond series by Bowtech. They have some pretty good prices on some package set ups. I would go to a reputable bow shop and steer well clear of Wal-Mart.
GWSmith
Re: Walmart bow Todd's right...it's cheaper in the long run just to go to a Archery Pro shop. It does not cost money to have them look for a used bow that may fit you. It could be either something they may have in on trade or consignment. In that process they will measure your draw length to make positively sure it fits you. You could ask them if they do Lay-Away Plans as well. The sign of a good archery shop is that they are willing to help you get started off in the right way. They know they will have you as a customer in the future if they treat you right

Guest lobsterman
Re: Walmart bow I was just at the kittery trading post last night, they have a few used bows there, probably one that would be a great beginner bow for you... AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Walmart bow Go to a pro shop and ask questions and see what they may have for you, they could have a good used bow that might fit your needs and your budget. Welcome to the world of bowhunting, its an addiction but a great one!
Guest Finn
Re: Walmart bow Welcome to bowhunting. Got to a pro shop and tell them your budget, then shoot everything that fits in your budget. You'll like one of them and get started. If the shop doesn't want to help you get started and you don't feel comfortable with them. go somewhere else. There are some great guys working bow shops that love to start guys in the right direction. Stay within your budget so you don't feel bad about spending too much. If you need a release, I've got an older cobra that I'd ship you to start out with. Just pm me your address and I'd be happy to get it to you. hunterfisherman
Re: Walmart bow I agree. At a pro shop you will get one that will fit you and you really don't have to spend a lot of money. Even if you go to Basspro or a store like that and buy a complete kit. They will measure you and make sure it is set up for you. You still wouldn't have to spend a lot. If you get that one from wallmart you may get a bow that's not the right size or any number of other things. Then you run into not being consistant and shooting will be a lot of work. With the right bow and setup you will have a blast shooting it and will probably become addicted like the rest of us. Good luck on whatever bow you do get and remember to allways have fun. WIwhitetailhunter
Re: Walmart bow Funny you ask about buying a bow from Walmart. I was just talking to someone the other day about where they bought their first bow. I bought mine from...Walmart! (long before the SuperWalmart craze) In comparing stories, it turns out my Walmart bought bow has been used to harvest more deer than the other guys bow he spent big money on from a bow shop. It's not the bow, it's what you do with it. Accuracy is everything. Practice, practice, practice. Just thought I'd share.
