arrow32
On the eposide of step out side tonight they had a teenager get his first buck ever. It wasnt a big but it was a small 4pt. Just seeing the smile on this kids face was awesome. I bet he could have taken a 140 inch class buck but they took that buck. To me thats what these shows need to be about averege hunters kill averege bucks. Very good episode.
Squirrelhunter91
Re: Episode of... I hear ya about depicting what hunting really is. I mean, not many guys get to shoot 140" plus deer. What you usually see is alot of does being taken and the occasional buck. I really like shows that show they kill does. That's why I like the Drury Brothers. tp793
Re: Episode of... I agree, its more realistic to us who dont have the luxury of hunting on outfitter land every day and killing 140" deer day in and day out. I really enjoy those episodes.. hunterfisherman
Re: Episode of... I would agree. How many of us can let a 150 class deer walk buy because were waiting on a bigger one. A 150 gets it every time in my book

starbux
Re: Episode of... I would say the average deer hunter in our state would pass a 4 pt. I like the shows that depict the midwest (Drury or Wild Outdoors for example). I like when people get a trophy for their area including this kid. In some areas, it's gonna be a 120". There's not many places that the 4 pt. is the 'average buck size'. TP793, I worked hard to buy a little piece of land here that I can see a 150+ on with regularity. You don't have to hunt on outfitted land to see these in the midwest.

rifleman25
Re: Episode of... I think the hunter would have been just as happy killing a doe and letting the little guy grow. I just manage the herd on my property well that 130-150 inch deer are common. If ya can't pass up the little ones or even the pretty decent good ones your chances of killing a trophy are going to be very slim. Thats my thought. I would rather go home at the end of the season with an unfilled tag than to have to shoot a backet rack or less just to say you killed a buck. sskybnd
Re: Episode of... i would have to agree with you bowtech, i think when you hunt with a youth, i would have to say you have to change the rules, i think killing any deer be it a doe or buck, but now that it was a buck you can teach him about managing the herd, either way i bet he's hooked on hunting now
