Southern Maine Expanded archery hunters

Last night, i was looking at the inland and fisheries webpage, and noticed that they changed the expanded archery zones. It seems that they have shrunk the area that i bowhunt, and moved it further up along the coast, and with gas prices, ect.. its pretty safe to say that im not going to travel 2hours to go bowhunting, that used to be why expanded was great, early bowhunting, and it included the area around me. Besides that, the only areas they left in the expanded zone down here, is posted...im sure a few landowners might give us permission, but not all. my thought is that im giving the state of maine money every year for hunting licenses, ect... and they are suppose to have places for me to hunt, and clearly they arent doing their job...i am soo furious about this, im completly thinking about saying the heck with it, and not getting a maine license, and going to new hampshire..by the time im done with all the licenses that maine requires, i could get a new hampshire license for just a little more, and actually hunt on sundays! where it is prohibited here...thanks for letting me get this off my chest guys....

I heard about them shrinking the zone down around Saco, I think it was zone 24. that stinks man. I would definitely consider NH an alternative with the Sunday hunting and all. Not sure if you have been reading the Maine Sportmsan, but major changes are on the horizon for next season and one of them may allow you to get two deer during the regular (or bow) season. They're talking about giving you your regular tag in addition to if you get drawn for a doe tag.

Re: Southern Maine Expanded archery hunters

I can understand the reasons for this change. When the expanded archery zones/program were originally introduced a few years back it was with the intention of reducing deer populations in suburban/heavily populated areas where deer numbers were growing and causing accidents/destruction and where rifle hunting was either not allowed or not doing the trick for management. At no point did the state every say this was a permanent program and I do recall them saying the areas may be adjusted as deer numbers changed. One area I'm expecting a change up in Auburn is where they recently pushed back the no firearms discharge zone so they'll need the expanded archery zone to push back to cover that.
