Opening a Cuddeback?

Has anyone ever opened a Cuddeback Camera (case)? My camera had some insects inside of it and they "deposited" in front of the camera lens. I called Cuddeback and they want $50 just to look at it. I only see 2 screws and if all I need to do is remove those screws to clean it, I hate to pay the $50. Ya, I know it will void the warranty, but I am not concerned about that really. Has anyone ever opened a Cuddeback for cleaning and was it easy/hard, parts going BOINGGG, or anything else? I have seen the homebrews opened on here and they don't look like there is much to have to be concerned about.

Thanks

Yeah. I have to agree that knowing they are going to charge you any way you look at it, I would open it up myself first and see if there wasnt something I could do myself.

Dont know for sure, but kind of doubt that there will be anything to jump out at you ken, but would definitely use a bit of care when you pull it open.

LOL ...no i didnt mean it like that...though that is kinda funny. I am an auto tech and everyday im taking apart something new to me so it dosnt bother me to do so. I was just think that if you gotta pay to send it in you should try it your self. Just use some caution, i cant see any clocksprings being in there but you never know. laugh.gif

Re: Opening a Cuddeback?

I haven't taken one of mine apart yet either swampy. If it came down to it though, I wouldn't have a problem removing some screws to do it myself before paying $50 to send it back.

I'm confused though about why you say it would void the warranty. I guess I don't understand why you'd have to pay $50 if it's still under warranty. confused.gif

Insect/animal damage is not covered. Been round and round with them over it. My stance is if insects can get in, it is not moisture proof. Anyhow, I have decided to leave it alone. I am not sending it back in. After further inspection moist of the "dirt" is on the flash area, not the camera lens area. I started to open the Cuddeback and found it is sealed with a double sided sticky foam, that is cut very precise. It must be a part they manufacture specifically for the camera. Not worth messing it up. Will leave it as is.

I have had one opened for the same reason - JUST WATCH THE CAPACITORS IN THE HIGH VOLTAGE AREA - They will hold a charge even after the batteries have been removed for a long time - touch those and you could get a serious shock.
