Guest Danbo
Most everyone I talk to recommends a 100 grain (a less % say 125) broadhead for Elk hunting. Since the most likely, and only shot I would take is a double lung shot, does it really matter if you change your whitetail deer setup from 85 grain to 100 or 125 grain? The % difference in total arrow weight is only 5 % for the 100 grain and 12% for the 125 grain. Does it really gain you anything except the hassle of re-tuning if you only take the low risk shot? Guest MikeWinters
Re: ELK Double Lung and broadhead weight i don't think it matters as long as it hits with enough force to penetrate all the way though the body cavity
Guest Phaseolus (BeanMan)
Re: ELK Double Lung and broadhead weight Danbo, I would not change, 85 grains is just fine if that is what you already are tuned for. I have shot several elk with 85 grain deadheads and have not had any problems. Beanman
Guest Danbo
Re: ELK Double Lung and broadhead weight I'm using a COC Montec G5 in 85 grain. We will also be hunting Mule Deer on the same trip and changing the set-up is just asking for trouble in my opinion. Thanks for the comments. Rossman - My V = 292 ft/sec with a 75 grain tip. njbowhntr
Re: ELK Double Lung and broadhead weight On all the reading I have done around the net on penetration and kinetic energy, arrow weight is the key. For me I look for the tad heavier arrow and then it leaves my options open on head weight. Last year I switched to the Max-4's by Beman. I always, til this year, used Thunderhead 100's. By switching the weight of the arrow my penetration was amazing.
