Long Eye Relief Scope

I have a Marlin 1895G 45/70 with an Ashley Outdoors Scout scope mount that fits on the barrel just forward of the receiver. I was using it for a red dot sight. I am now contemplating a traditional scope but it needs to be LER, long eye relief. Anyone out there have some opinions on brands, magnification, etc.?

Re: Long Eye Relief Scope

You don't need a long eye reief scope, you need an intermediate eye relief scope. Leupold has the M8 2.5x Scout Scope with 9" of eye relief. Burris has a 1x and a 2.75x Scout Scope with 7" of eye relief. Most handgun scopes have 12" or so of eye relief so they may sit too close to the shooter in a Scout setup.

Thanks for the info! Just the reason why I like this site so much! I'll look in some catalogs but I'm hoping to find for a little more magnification.

Re: Long Eye Relief Scope

leupold riffleman have around 4 inches at 9X I think. That's about as much as I've seen. And it's around $200. I've got a Nikon Prostaff it's around 3.5 inches at 9X and better the futher in you go. It has very good optics and is great at dusk, it was $149 at wal-mart.

Re: Long Eye Relief Scope

Uh, John, the normal scope will not work on a Scout setup. You need at least 7" of eye relief.

Ronin,

Using the Scout setup, it is made for quick handeling and fast but accurate shooting. If you want higher mag, you will have to use a normal setup.

Re: Long Eye Relief Scope

Yeah...I looked them up and see what you mean. I think I'll try it and see how it goes. I had a red dot set up that was fantastic for moving game out to 75 yards, but I want to get a little more diversity in shooting situations. Thanks AJ!
