I may never find a shed???

The bucks have to be wintering in that specific area at the time of shedding. I would expand your area search and keep walking, walking, walking. Try to walk the same chunk of land in a totally different manner. Use different travel routes and directions. The key is to walk slow, and to stop once in a while and scan. Use binos as well. Good luck, I hope you find some sheds. I got a little 7 month old that I hope will become a shed hunting parnter with the two current ones I have. How old are your young ones??? How young can we start em?

Re: I may never find a shed???

I concentrate on three sources..bedding, feeding ad the trails leading to/from them.......keep on a looking, I didn't find ay sheds the first two years I started, after you locate that first one you slowly develope an eye for them........even yesterday I almost walked over one that was so well matched to the dead grass it was laying on........ wink.gif

Re: I may never find a shed???

Dont worry, you will soon enough be finding sheds. After the first one they all seem to get easier. Im not quite sure on the topography of TN but I would agree with the other guys. Granted you dont have cedar swamps to hunt in when the deer yard up, but all you need to know is where the bucks were when they were shedding their antlers. Look in the feeding/ bedding areas and inbetween. Be positive, and dont get frustrated, that will just make it worse. Look for small parts of antlers, I picture small spikes on the ground, and not whole antlers. It helps, also putting antlers on the ground and seeing how they lay, or which way they lay is a good idea. Then your mind will recognise, sheds when you scan at them. Remember its not about the quantity or quality of the sheds, its all about being out in Nature and enjoying it for its beauty. The sheds will come, just remember to walk really slow, when your thinking Im walking slow, go even slower. Every 10 min or so, slow down more, most of the time you get all excited and move faster. I think many people walk by too many sheds because they dont see them, they are there, just waiting to be found. Hope this helps, the rush of finding your first shed will last a lifetime. - EJ

Re: I may never find a shed???

seems like I'm not ever gonna find one either, I've stepped over sheds before, and found out that I had walked over them after someone else found them, I've put in a ton of hours already this year, is there a certain way I should walk the fields? which do you guys think is effective, from some I've heard walk a grid patter, others I've heard zig-zag across fields, what do you guys think? really wanna find my first shed this year, man I think I'll go look tonight, gotta pull the game cam anyway.
