okiedog
At what age did you start to take you kids to the field hunting with you? What age did you think they were ready to harvest their own game?
RangerClay
Re: Taking kids hunting My daughter will be 5 in October. She is going to spend some time in my treestand this year. Also she will definately go turkey hunting next spring. She will not shoot but at least she is going outdoors. That is the most important thing. okiedog
Re: Taking kids hunting I have my son in the woods every day. When I get home from work, we take the mule UTV for a 15 or 30 min ride through the woods. We check the game cameras, feeders and such. He will be 2 in november, and I'am just counting the years until he is ready to go on the hunts.

AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Taking kids hunting My oldest is only 2 but I can't wait to take her. Going to ground blind hunt for awhile then take to the treetops, she will really like that! She is a dare devil and see stunt woman in her future! Guest nucker
Re: Taking kids hunting My grandfather had me on the deerstand with him at 14 months, strapped in the carseat and piled up with blankets. Quail hunting before I could walk, he carried me and put me down briefly whenever the dog pointed. Been hunting with him and my dad literally all my life. Now that I have an 8 year old I can appreciate what a pain in the butt it must have been for them to take a youngun' with them, but it was a labor of love that I continue to this day. My boy could say Mossberg before he could say Momma.
Guest Finn
Re: Taking kids hunting My kids started when they were around 8. Son shot his first deer at 11. He wasn't big enough to safely handle a deer rifle by himself until then. He had shot squirrels and stuff with the .22 before then, just can't remember the exact ages. He shot his first deer with a bow at age 12.
hunterfisherman
Re: Taking kids hunting My son is four and next year will be his first year in the woods. I would like for him to sit with me for 3 or 4 years before he starts hunting with a gun. He has trouble sitting still so we have been working on that when we go fishing. Plus, that's what they make blinds for
