Best way to hang deer?

I heard different reasons to hang them by their hind legs or frnts legs. My club prefers to hang them by their front legs. Both have there advantages. Just thought I'd get some input on what everyone thinks. Or if there's any articles out the suggesting which is better. There's a few of us in the gang that think we should go with hanging them by the hind legs.

i think hanging them by there hind leg's is easier to skin and drain all the blood and easy access to the gut's and let drop in a barrel and easy caping out . just my thought's .

Gambrel though I have hung them by the neck.

I bet I could give you the exact cuts of meat from the same age deer from the same property that are hung differnently and you nor anyone else could tell the difference.

OK, maybe I wouldn't bet. LMBO

I agree. I also know people that don't even hang their deer. I can't imagine the warm weather in the south permits much if any hanging time. As far as effecting the cuts of meat, I don't think which end you hang them from effects that at all.

Re: Best way to hang deer?

A majority of the time I'll hang a deer by the back legs simply to make it easier to skin out.

IMHO it is easier to skin out around the hind quarters when they are hanging higher off the ground.

In the exception that a decent racked buck is taken it also keeps from messing up the neck hair for the mount as well!

The only exception to this is when I have made all the needed cuts, trimmed the hide down 6-8", while the deer is hanging from the neck and roll a golf ball under the hide. Tie a piece of good quality nylon rope around the golf ball and then tie that rope to the bumper of a truck. Pull forward with the truck and the skinning is Done! Gauranteed the fastest, cleanest, skinning job you'll ever do!!!!!!!

It depends, I do them both ways. I guess it depends on the mood at the time. I have not found one to be better or easier than the other. My next few critters will probably not hung at all. Quarter them and pack them out.

So its more or less, a personal preference. As I mentioned we usually hang them by their frint legs, but depends on who does the hanging or where the deer get shot they'll get hung by their hind legs. I guess its an argument I could leave for the guys in the camp.
