Tonights Nextel Cup.....errrr, I mean Busch race.

I really do think this is getting out of hand. A lot has been said in the past about Nextel Cup regulars driving in Busch series events, but I do believe it has passed the point of being a slight annoyance. It seems all a Busch race is nowadays is an extra practice session for Sunday. There is no reason, and I mean absolutely no reason for an established, successful, winning Cup driver to be leading the Busch series points.

How many non-regular Nextel Cup drivers were in the Busch race tonight? I think I counted 5.

I'm sorry, but this is just starting to really chap my behind. I predict more truck series races in the future for me.

The problem isn't the cup drivers...its Nascar mandating all these rules and the cup teams have to find ways around the rules to make their cup team better. Nascar wants to be "fair" and limits how many tracks a team can practice at...so they run busch races instead.

Thats just one example...every rule/law that is put in place will result in other probs. down the road. Thats where the saying "be careful what you wish for comes from."

Re: Tonights Nextel Cup.....errrr, I mean Busch race.

This is nothing new though....look at some of the past Busch series champs...they beat some cup regulars to win the championship. Guess thats what seperates the great drivers from drivers like Kenny Wallace, David Green, etc...

If your a new young driver and finish in the top ten in points of Busch series...you'll get reconized. If you happen to beat alot of the cup drivers...you'll def. get a ride.

Some of the new drivers are getting the chance to skip Busch series and race in the cup series. I still blame Nascar...not car owners or drivers.

Well, my count yielded 28 wink.gif I agree, it is kind of out of control, but I don't blame the drivers at all for utilizing the opportunity to get more experience with the almost identical cars. In order to fix this, NASCAR is going to have to do one of several things=

1.Schedule a few Busch and Cup races on the same day, right after each other.

2. Change the car package radically so there is no real technical advantage to driving both races.

3. Don't give points to Nextel Cup drivers.

4. Institute the Chase in Busch-those guys will have a lot better chance of catching them with a 5-10 race chase.

I really don't have a problem with Nextel Cup rookies like Bowyer and Sorenson running both series, as they need all the experience they can get.

It has been amazing to see what Harvick is doing this year though, he has completely dominated the Cup regulars as well as the Busch guys. I doubt anyone has ever, or will ever, have this good of a season again.

Re: Tonights Nextel Cup.....errrr, I mean Busch race.

It is totally out of control. Next year may slow down some with the Car of Tomorrow coming into the cup series....but it could be in Busch too. I think the only way to fix this is to either put a limit on the number of Busch races a cup regular can start OR go back to some of the old rules where the Busch and cup cars were VERY different.

Re: Tonights Nextel Cup.....errrr, I mean Busch race.

I personally don't like the idea of limiting anyone racing in any series...that will just start teams/owners to figure out another way around things.

Easy fix (if there is a problem deemed by Nascar)...schedule more races same day/different tracks...and/or schedule Busch race Sat. night out west some where and Cup race Sun. morning in the east.

The last time Harvick had this good of a season was his Rookie year (year he took over Earnhardts car). Harvick won the Busch series and finished (I believe) 7th or 8th in the cup points.

He just seems to run better when he runs both series. Would like to see him win both series this year...that would be a hard task for anyone to beat.

Re: Tonights Nextel Cup.....errrr, I mean Busch race.

The only problem with limiting drivers is that NASCAR can't really do it. They have said repeatedly that basically, a team/driver is basically an independent contractor, separate from each series (which I think is bunk) so basically if a driver wants to race in any series he (or she) can. That's why you rarely see a driver get punished series wide for a major infraction in a specific race, unless they race both series under the same race team.

About the only way it can be curbed is the fans raise a big enough stink about it, but that won't happen, because there are plenty of fans out there who go to both races on the weekend to see their favorite driver. Think about it, the Busch races are cheaper to attend, but you can still go and see Harvick, and Kahne, and Stewart, and occasionally Dale Jr. NASCAR won't do anything about it because it puts butts in the seats. 10 years ago you never saw a crowd at a Busch race like you do now.

nascar won't change it because it means $$$$$$$ to them to have cup guys in busch races.

I doubt there would be a Busch Series if there were no Cup drivers in it. The talk a couple years ago was that the Busch Series was on it's way down unless they got some major money.

Yep,there's no way the Busch series would make it without Busch wackers. They need big names to fill the stands and sometimes even fill the field. It's not fair to the kids trying to move up,but it will never change. If you've ever been to a truck race that was not running with cup cars you'll see the stands about half full.
