Re: Elk Contest Teams (please post)

hey gobblerbane, I see I am on the team with you. My season is over and I did not tag an elk. I had a couple of smaller 6x bulls waiting for the nosler but I was looking for somthing a bit nicer. I never did see a good bull over 350. Sorry to let you down team-mates.

My wife however, has a tag thats good until Jan 31 07. She should be on one of the teams too.

Maybe next year guys. I would like to know how everyone els is doing and has done.

Thanks a bunch

Ward

Re: Elk Contest Teams (please post)

So how is team 4 doing so far? Since my wife can take my spot on the team I better let you know her season is Nov. 1, 06 to Jan. 31, 07. I have hopes of her getting a very nice bull so please be patient with us. She and my daughter both got very nice bucks over the Thanksgiving weekend. Wife got a 26 inch 5x3 freak. It's a really great buck -- a true freak. My daughter shot her first animal ever -- a beautiful 5x5 at 25 inches wide. What a great source of pride for a dad. It was at an honest lasered 372 yards. She center punched him first shot. That's a great shot in any one's book. Best of luck to all the teams.

Hey Gobbler Bane--- SHE DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My wife got a nice full blown 6x6 bull Sunday. Still trying to get it scored but my best guess is near 280 but over 270. She nailed him clean at 442 yards. Dumped him in his tracks. It is all on film and should hit the TV show sometime in 07. I will try to get pics on here somehow and a score sheet. Please let me know if you can help me get the pics to the site. You can email me at [email protected] Thanks a bunch bane.

Re: Elk Contest Teams (please post)

Hey Bane:

I just got done scoring the elk. It turned out to be 250 7/8. I really thought it was a bit bigger but I have a pretty hard time judging the smaller ones. I have not scored very many smaller ones.

My next question is -- if my wife shoots a fairly nice 6x6 bull and gets only 250 points for it -- the same as a cow -- then where is the incentive to shoot a smaller bull than hers. We had hundreds of oportunities to shoot cows on the road. Cows are easy and should be like 100 points. For sure there should be value in shooting a cow for the contest though. Even though not as tough to get as a bull they are truly a great trophy.

Just my thoughts but I did enjoy the contest and would like to see it again next year. If it happens next year I wonder if the score for a cow should be more in line with a bulls average score that is as plentiful as cows, like 100 points.

By the way since the contest must now be over what was the prize or trophy or whatever and who -- which team won it.

Just my thoughts and appreciation. Thanks for the fun. BTW how do I post a picture of the bull in here.

Re: Elk Contest Teams (please post)

Hey guys -- its not a competative thing with me. There are lots of "In facts" here for me. In fact I turned down more than one bull considerably bigger than the one she took. the next in fact -- I never did hear of anything that was being put up for or given as a prize to any one. Not to mention I am not even sure there has even been a winner considered. With that all being considered I do actually agree with you -- provided there is anything to be gained by winning. If there is any sort of prize or trophy other than bragging rights then she should not be allowed to be put in my place. I just guess we sometimes take the competative thing a bit too far. Especially if the competition cheapens the ultimate saccrifice of an animal as noble as an elk or any animal for that matter. Sorry for sounding off from my high horse. I would just like to bring attention to the perspective of "its the hunt -- the persuit" that is what we are after. I love my wife absolutely and seeing her shoot her first elk was akin to watching my babies be born. Guys; sometimes its not about us. There are times when we need to put our wives and kids and parents on the pedastal and step out of the spotlight for a while. Really I'm not a holier than thou type of guy. I just felt like voicing my appreciation for my good luck to have a wife and kids that enjoy the outdoors like I do. It's time for me to step behind the curtain and play stage crew for a while behind the sceens.

Sorry for the novel folks. Remember its about FAMILY, FRIENDS AND THE OUTDOORS.

Re: Elk Contest Teams (please post)

AWESOME! You're wife got one!!!!! Congrats to both of you! E-mail me pics, [email protected] You guys are right though. Even though it's a contest it should really be about family friends and the outdoors. Just getting the experiance of being out in God's country. This was my first time running a contest. It was a trial and error thing. I have proved that I can't handle it and must establish more stable rules. We should still do this next year, but I won't be in charge, and frankly, I don't think you guys will really care about that. Still, congrats to everyone. I'll try and get a hoockie mama to you here Snake. What's your address? Winning teams get bragging rights, but the individual winner gets the hoochie mama (and bragging rights).
