Re: Elk Contest Team 1

Hey, rifleman-----Ironbuck is hunting with me this year. I scouted this weekend---saw a lot of sign. Lots of tracks, scat & a couple really good rubs. I think we will be in elk------1st shot goes to Ironbuck---Trying to get him a bull----he's played pack mule the last couple elk hunts. CB

I know what ya mean guys. I have 2 good bulls, one from Nevada, and one from Wyoming. I have private land in northern colo bordered by public and I am happy with any 5x5 out of there. Heck even a rag horn is coll though when the pressure is on. The lease I have is on the east side of the Routt forest between Steamboat and Walden. That area sees about as much pressure as the gunnison basin and I have learned to appreciate any legal bull in there.

Well guys, seems like I need to check in here a little more. At any rate I have been out doing a little bow hunting and as of yet have not had a good look at a shooter bull. Yesterday, the 13th, I spent most of the day in prime elk country and never saw or heard a one, but there was plenty of sign. Today a cold front moved in from Canada bringing some much needed rain and cooler temperatures. Unfortunately I awoke to back spasms this morning but with any luck they will subside a little and tomorrow morning will find me high in the mountains again. Maybe the cooler weather will get the rut started. Good hunting to all!

Re: Elk Contest Team 1

Well guys, there will not be any elk tenderloin for me this year. Sorry to say that today (11/26) is the last day and with a snow storm settling in this afternoon I am here at the computer and wishing my luck had been a little better. It has been an enjoyable year in the mountains as I had a small 6 point within 15 yards during bow season, but just couldn't close the deal, and was on the trail of several bulls during the rifle season, only to see flashes of tan. The only shooter bull during rifle season stood broadside on a logging road in the failing light at the end of a long day, and I wonder if he knew legal shooting time was over and he was perfectly safe. And so it is, if the body is able, next fall will find me in pursuit, once again, of the monarch of the mountains.
