ousoonerfan22
One of these 1 acre food plots that I'm going to disc and plant was an old pond that was pushed in and covered up.Around the sides and on one end of this plot is some decent looking soil but in the center looks to be some clay and crushed shale/rock. What should I plant in the center of the plot where the soil doesn't look that good?

Guest Plinker007
Re: what to plant? I don't know about planting in shale in paticular, but I've been very disappointed with the "premixed" bags on the market. Here in Oklahoma, there are a lot of wheat fields. Most of these premixed bags consist of 60-80% wheat. $9 per 2lb bag of 60-80% wheat is ludicrous. I wanted something different, so I made my own concoction of mixed seeds using turnips, brassicas, chicory and a few different types of clover. I just couldn't make sense of planting wheat with the abundance of it in the area.
