Strut10
Looking for input from actual hunting & shooting experience on these scopes. Burris Fullfield II Leupold VX I Leupold Rifleman Weaver V-Series Nikon Pro-Staff Nikon Buckmasters My daughter is about to buy a scope for her deer rifle and these are the ones in her price/quality range. The scope will be a 3x9. Thanks for your input.
wtnhunt
Re: Scope choice............ Put a buckmasters 3-9 X 40 on the wifes savage model 10 in .243. That rifle is a tack driver. Put a burris fullfield II on my .270 back this spring. Been pretty happy with it with target practicing, but have yet to have it out in the field to hunt with. Dont think you could go wrong with either of those two. Have heard the rifleman scope from leupold is not such a great scope.
ousoonerfan22
Re: Scope choice............ You can find the Burris fullfield II 3-9x40 on ebay with a $150-$159 buy-it-now price, supposed to be new scopes.I think the Burris is the best scope out of the group you listed and I own a buckmaster and pro staff scopes. AJ
Re: Scope choice............ Out of those, I have owned or used the Burris FFII, Weaver V-Series, and the NikonBuckmaster. I would pick any of these. I prefer the Burris as I have had great success with them. They use good optics, and I like the Ballistic Plex for long range shooting. The Nikon is a decent quality scope with similar quality glass. It's not quite as clear or bright as the Monarch, but its not bad. The Weaver V-Series is the biggest question in my mind. They had good quality scopes a while back but the company has changed hands a few times in the past and I have not seen or used one lately. So I can not say about today's quality. I don't like the bottom quality of the mid range manufacturers like Leupold and Nikon. I would not spend the money on a VX-I or the Pro Staff, and definately not the Rifleman. Guest ronin
Re: Scope choice............ Any views on the new Simmons Aetec Master series? I picked one up a couple of months ago and have yet to mount it. The opitcs looked much more clear than anything I have ever seen from simmons before
too_pointer
Re: Scope choice............ I have both of the Nikon Buckmasters and Pro-staff. I agree with AJ on the Pro-staff, it is on my .22 and is fine for that, but the Buckmasters are on 3 of my larger rifles and I think they do real well. too_
rifleman25
Re: Scope choice............ I have to say go with the Buckmaster or the Burris. The rest just aren't products I'd trust a once in a lifetime shot to.
OJR
Re: Scope choice............ I have used the Burris FFII with the standard duplex and the ballistic plex and they are both great! The light gathering on them is really good! That is what I have on my 270 and used to shoot a doe with on Aug. 3 and it was as clear as a bell! One shot and that was it! snapper
Re: Scope choice............ I personally think any of them would work...I would lean towards the Nikon Buckmaster myself. I have a Buckmaster and Pro-staff. Both are good and do the job...the Buckmaster seems a little clearer. My brother has a Leupold VXI on his .300 WSM and seems to like it. Never had any experience with a Bushnell 3200 elite (heard they aren't bad scopes?) that also would be in her price range...maybe even a 4200 elite? Let me know if you need a price. Guest huntingfinatic
Re: Scope choice............ i personally wouldnt use any... id use the bushnell elite 3200 with raingaurd i got taht scope and i love it u pick the animals up so fast in 3 or 9 get the 3x9x 40 one its about 300 in LeBaron (in Canada) so i think in the US or where ever u live it should be a reasonable price but its worth the money
