Re: mechanical heads????????????????

The G5's are a good head. This years release is said to have a blade that is easier to sharpen then the pevious years blades. I shoot Wasp Boss Bullets, and am totally happy with them. If were to go to a mechanical, the only head I would trust would be the NAP Spitfires. A well made, reliable head, that is known for leaving incredible blood trails.

Re: mechanical heads????????????????

Spitfires are a great mechanical head, I have taken down three deer with them now. The farhtest any of them have went has been 60yds. As for penetration for the mechanicals i have absolutely no problem with that. Out of the three deer I have taken with the mechanicals the closest one was 28yds. and the farthest was 33yds. I blew through the 28 and 30 yard deer but the one that was 33yds. I didn't, but he was angled so badly that the broadhead broke his next to last rib on his right side and was pushing on the skin about ready to come out his brisket on his right side. Now last year I used an 85 grain thunderhead and blew plum through a doe breaking her right front leg. So to me it doesn't make much difference at all. I had good blood trails on every one of the deer. My bow is set at 64 pounds for hunting season. Hope this helps a little. I think that most mechanicals are respectable. grin.gif

I use 100 grain Rocket Hammerheads, 2" cutting diameter. They fly exactly like a fieldpoint, and I have had excellent performance from them on several deer.

Aimming for the head??? With a bow???

I never used mech. But if I were I guess I would give the NAP Spitfires a round.

Thought the same thing John, who headshots deer with a bow???? That to me is unethical to do as a bowhunter and could maime the deer instead of killing it!!

stay away from the rage's and go buy some grim reapers

Any particular reason we should stay away from the Rage's?

As far as the headshot....lets not get carried away with this. I personally wouldn't shoot a deer with my bow at 40 yards...let alone aiming for the head. Thats only because I don't feel confident enough to do so and make a humaine kill. If someone is good enough to do it...it will certainly kill the deer just the same.

Look at it this way....there are folks who aim for the heart...the head is bigger than the heart. Too far forward and you smack the shoudler/leg bone and could lose that deer. I always aim for the lungs with my Rocky Mt. Snypers (soon to be Rage's).

I use the NAP Spitfire XP Pro and I have no complaints. I shot a buck last year and the blades opened instantly on impact. It was a quartering shot and there was no deflection issues either. I really like them.
