VTbowman
I am planning on trying these heads out this fall. Won some pretty cheap off Ebay and got another 3 for next to nothing on AT. I do not recall hearing anything bad about them... I love the design and of coarse G5s way of making it solid stainless steel. I would like to hear pros and cons of those who have used these mech heads. Any problems? Good Blood trails? Etc.. Thanks...
Gator
Re: G5 Tekan II anyone? I used the original Tekans last year on a doe. Ended up shooting here quartering to me, she turned as I released. Anyways, she ran about 70yds, then piled up. I hit both lungs and the liver. As for a blood trail, I was on the ground, hit her about midway, so no bloodtrail. A friend of mine shot a buck at 30yds, complete pass through, his buck went 30yds and died directly behind his stand, so there was no looking for a trail there either. I LOVE the ferrule on these things.
VTbowman
Re: G5 Tekan II anyone? All my stands have 30 yard and under shotsw and few 30 yard shots at that. They are also higher this year (29') so I expect any hit will have a mid to high hole and a really low hole. LOL I am also using a new XT which is like a lazer with my light arrows... (not sure how fast but WAY faster then my recurve-LOL) I thought I read that someone had tested these threw notebook paper and they opened every time. Sounds like opening failure are not a problem. (always a concern with mech heads it seems)
Gator
Re: G5 Tekan II anyone? With the design, I don't see how you could have an opening failure, there is really nothing holding the blades closed, except for pressure from the o ring. I could open mine with very slight pressure from my fingernail
VTbowman
Re: G5 Tekan II anyone? Has anyone had a premature opening? From the force of releasing the arrow? Not an easy thing to be able to tell or not huh. LOL

superguide
Re: G5 Tekan II anyone? Ty and I tried them on anterless mulies last fall and weren't really that impressed comparing them to the G5's.

[ QUOTE ] Ty and I tried them on anterless mulies last fall and weren't really that impressed comparing them to the G5's. [/ QUOTE ] Why? I need details... LOL Oh and I assume you meant the fixed 3 bladed Montecs by G5... They are both from G5...
superguide
Re: G5 Tekan II anyone? They just didn't stand up like the fixed blades G5's do. Ty hit a twig on the way to a deer and it pretty much blew apart. I guess I just like the never fail qualities of the fixed blade ones better. AdvantageTimberLou
Re: G5 Tekan II anyone? Shawn I have some but have yet to use them on a deer. Simple concept though, they fly great but no kill informaton for you on them. I know I have push the blades through paper or plastic bags and they have opened ever time. Did anyone over at Archerytalk.com have any comments? Did you check the review section over there to see if there is some feedback? Good luck with them, I am using the G5 Montecs this year, I know those will open up!
VTbowman
Re: G5 Tekan II anyone? I did not search for any reviews. I just posted the question here and over to AT. No reply there other then the "they may be illegal in your state" which I anticipated. LOL I guess I am it for tekan II users this year. struttinhoyt
Re: G5 Tekan II anyone? they fly great for me...... I can hit in the 10 ring at 40 yards with them...... When I shot my deer last year he just ran about 45 yards piled up....... with BLOOD everywhere!!!!!

Wish we had that function over here. Its not a bash section its just people offering their opinions on their experiences.
VTbowman
Re: G5 Tekan II anyone? Well I have a lot of experience with "2 blade" style heads. Both fixed and mech styles, and I know that compared to a 3 blade head of either type, the blood trails can be lacking depending on enterence and exit hole placement.. But then again that can be said for any head. This is about the only complaint I have read so far. I have however seen pics of massive damage and superior penitration on hard 1/4 away and hard 1/4 towards hits. I will have to make my own report once I pound one threw a deer chest this fall. Thanks...
VtBowhunter
Re: G5 Tekan II anyone? Shawn, I shot my doe last year quartered slightly to me, and she only went 30 yards, and left a great blood trail.....as short as it was, lol. As for the premature opening, I've never had that problem, and I've never had one fail to open either. In fact I shot one 40 times into a target and never cleaned it out. Just reclosed it and shot it again. Not one failure. Shoot 'em. You won't be sorry.
VTbowman
Re: G5 Tekan II anyone? Well I got 3 tekans and 3 tekan IIs coming so I can test them out and see their differences, etc. I think if you put ANY type of cutting head in the boiler room its a dead dead so I am not worried about that... I got to playing with mine after paper tuning and they have opended everytime on a piece of paper every single shot........ even if they didnt open the cut on contact tip is big enough to kill one itself........ just my 2 cents..... Griz
Re: G5 Tekan II anyone? I shot this buck last year at 30 yards. Didn't have any problems with the Tekan ll as you can tell. The arrow blew through the buck and both blades opened just fine. And No the arrow in the pic is not broke...

Smitteken
Re: G5 Tekan II anyone? I like the design on them. If I were to shoot a mechanical I'd give them a look. I was given two deer last year that were killed by them. When butchering them it was evident they cut pretty well and leave a nice wound. If you're set on mechanicals go with them. They look pretty sweet too.
VtBowhunter
Re: G5 Tekan II anyone? Don't forget that if they did fail to open they are still cutting on all 4 sides......just won't as big a hole. Like I said before......never had one fail, and it takes very little to open one on impact.

VTbowman
Re: G5 Tekan II anyone? Man that must of really sucked. Not just the bow but to have it happen on a monster buck too. I felt bad for ya. Especially since we were on the same Deer Contest team that year. LOL
