how big?

Re: how big?

my food plot is 1/4 of an acre and surrounded on all sides by woods. I have some smaller ones too. I dont have any tractors or discers so I have to do it all with an ATV and drag that has big spikes, then I put 4 synder blocks on it, works alright but not for big areas. hope your plots work out good.

Re: how big?

I've made harvest plots as small as 20' x 20' and have had very good luck with them. Sometimes in wooded areas, that's all you have for good sunlight.

There is a picture of the plot wtnhunt is talking about on another post. . . perfect small plot IMHO. Generally speaking, its much more about location than size.

BTW, 20 yds x 50 yds is approximately 1/5 acre.

Re: how big?

sq2, no set answer to that question. As others are saying, all sizes can work well. Depends on how the property is laid-out. I should mention that small plots of corn, beans, or peas can get over-eaten quickly if you have a high population of deer. Try for multiple plots of different things, to add diversity to your food sources. Plan for all four seasons if you can.

Re: how big?

check out this plot, cant be much bigger than 15'x10' and yet I get 3-5 deer in here pretty often. So to me its all about what you have planted and where its located, I planted this right in the middle of a big woods outside of the bedding area and there is a trail going right by it. its planted with monster mix. the deer love it.
