Treestand Harnesses and guys who don't have one

Every now and then I see over at Archerytalk.com guys giving away free safety harness's that may have come with stands, all you pay is the shipping. It amazes me the guys who respond as quick as they can and the ones who didn't make it in time.

For the cost of a harness why would someone not just go out and buy one? Its very generous of people to offer ones for the mere price of shipping but it always amazes me the ones out there that need one for the cost of shipping yet are some of the same guys who don't skimp on their bow equipment and have the best of the best.

You can have the top of the line equipment but if you don't have a harness you better just plop your butt on the ground because look around at your family and friends and think of a life without you around or being paralyzed and having them care for you till the end.

So basically my point is, go out and buy a treestand harness, please wear it, don't wait for the next freebie to be posted here or on another site. We all want the latest arrow or broadhead or bow but we won't enjoy them if we don't go shopping for a harness to keep us safe in the trees.

I see the same thing in racing, guys wearing tennis shoes and firesuits that are not up to par or motorcross helmets and driving with no racing gloves. Seems speed equipment to make the car go faster is more important than a fire or a crash and the safety equipment to make you walk away safe.

We as individuals tend to think it won't happen to us but it may so if you know anyone who hunts without a harness, urge them to buy one and use it! As the Hunter Safety commercial says, we need to play it safe!!

Be safe out there this fall guys and gals! smile.gif

Re: Treestand Harnesses and guys who don\'t have on

Just my 2 cents but I bet alot of guys who are getting them for free are turning around and selling them.

Considering harnesses come free with most tree stands, isn't likely that if they have a stand they already have a harness too?

I wouldn't say thats the case ... we just had a guy in here not long ago looking for a harness for his boys ... a lot of stands didn't come with harness's years ago ... some ppl build there own ... but I do think that sometimes ppl just try and get something for nothing ... its one thing to get the harness given to you ... but then you have to use it ....

Re: Treestand Harnesses and guys who don\'t have one

I was one of those guys who had the belt type for years and never once had een a close call, and then got lucky to get a freebie from some guy who bought stands that came with them.

I have yet to have even a close call but know IF I ever slip or whatever, I wont go down 20 to 30 feet to my doom.

Although I can not disagree with the need and safety of wearing them I do not use them 100% of the time either.

Like climbing trees with screw in pegs or stick ladders, setting up stands at some point of the process, etc.

I do wearing while hunting or extended sits in a stand.

Used to use a belt type with my old climber when I used it. Never had any close calls really from that setup. Eventually bought an ameristep harness, after season closed and never used it, got a summit climber that came with the summit harness over that summer that same year. Will wear that harness every time I go up in the climber, really is no excuse not to use it with the climber, easy to put on, not too uncomfortable and could potentially save me if I slip.

All it takes is that one and only time, you can die! I spent 18 years in the fire department and ambulance service, all volunteer. Seen all kinds of injuries and death. Please wear your harness! I was taught then to use your safety equipment everytime!

I've given several of them away and just come across another one from the last API stand I bought. My nieghbor has also got another one mine that came with an Ole man stand I got last year. I use the Transformer, so if any of you need one let me know. I'll fix you up for a good price of just shipping. No profit on my part and except for possibly saving someone's life on here. I think everyone profit's from that. Good luck to all of you and be safe!

Re: Treestand Harnesses and guys who don\'t have one

well i am one who can truly say if you dont wear one, your asking for trouble, and even if you rae only gliming the tree its a must, il never climb with out one again, in 2004 opening day of bow season i was climbing a tre in my climbing stand, the strap that goes around the tree kept falling under the upper part, i thought i would just unhook it till i got to where i like to be 20 ft, i know this by the length of my rope, anyway when i got to that highth i went to put the strap back around the tree, the bottom of the stand went one way and the top another, over the side i went. another hunter found me, the ambulance came and got me out of the woods, i was lucky i only broke my wrist in three places, now i have a metal plate with some screws holding it together, along with the broken wrist i also broke three ribs next to my backbone, i would say the good lord was watching over me that day, and i think any one who dont wear one, is asking for trouble, i could have died is what they said, the same day i was in the hospital, another man came in same thing but his rib percied his heart he didnt make it, so if you love yourself and your familey be safe and wear it

This would go double for me ... I know that I have done all I can do if I give someone a harness ... I have a few of them and so does my buddy and we have both agreed that if someone here needs one please by all means let me know ... we will for sure hook you up ...

So if you read this thread .. you have absolutely no reason to have fallen out of a tree...

Re: Treestand Harnesses and guys who don\'t have one

Possibly a Moderator could make, pin, and lock a thread to the top where people who are willing to give away Harnesses can have their name entered there????????????

People could contact that moderator and have their name added to the list when they have committed to give away a harness for shipping cost only.

Also when that persons supply of free harnesses is exausted they could have a moderator remove their name.

People who are looking for a harness but dont want to make it public that they dont have one could PM the person they wish to contact privately.

I agree. I read a post in here about a guy that doesn't were one and he had kids. I offered to send him one for free but he didn't get back to me. I spent about 100.00 dollars on mine but it will last for years and that's a cheap insurance policy.

What kind do you have... I have one but the strap that straps to the tree is so short I can't even turn around in the stand or it rubs on the tree and makes noise whenever I move.... I have a vest ......its nice but just the strap is too short. Still wear it though.....I agree what was said! I love my family and friends ...why wouldn't you want to be the safest you can be so you can enjoy them and walk out of the woods , not drug out....leave that for your deer! smirk.gifGlad this topic was brought up! Be Safe! grin.gif
