Re: hunters

I've donated deer to Virginia's Hunters for the Hungry program in the past and try to support them all I can. Our NWTF chapter also sponsors a golf team in their fund-raising tournament every year (we're defending champs I might add). We also participate in the NWTF's Turkey Hunters Care program every year. We give out turkeys to needy families at Thanksgiving.

Re: hunters

I was invited as some one's partner to one of Ohio's controlled hunts, geez, three years ago already. Man time flies.

Anyway, I tagged out on three doe and donated one to that program and let me buddy take one since he got skunked.

It was all blind luck, guys who drew good areas had deer all over, and guys that didn't were out of luck.

I think about 20-25 deer were donated all together. Its a good program, and combining it with the controlled hunts is a great idea.

Re: hunters

No but I have donated deer to "in need" families when I have had good years.

Nothing like driving through the countryside and just signing a tagged deer over. Instant friends you become.

It also lets the locals know that you are not a venison hog to an area and that the prize can be about giving, with no organization being the middleman. It puts a name and face to the giving hunter. Try it sometime you'd be amazed at the responses you get.

A few buddies and I thought about starting a local chapter since so many people need this food. Is there anywhere you can go to find a local chapter or start one?
