superguide
Can anybody tell me how many boone and crockett deer have been taken in each place-trying to settle an argument on another forum.
TexasDeerHunter
Re: Comparing Texas and Saskatchewan I don't know the actual stats. I have heard for years that Texas ( especially the golden triange in South Texas ) produces the most book deer each year. I do not know how accurate that is because there are alot of high fence ranches there. I am inclined to think they are talking about B&C score not what actually makes the book. I am interested to know.

SaskMan
Re: Comparing Texas and Saskatchewan Superguide, I'll bet my bottom dollar that Saskatchewan has more unregistered booners than Texas. One of those places where being in a book isn't all that important.
rossman
Re: Comparing Texas and Saskatchewan Isn't most of the hunting in Texas done on large acreage high fenced ranches? I'm talkin like 10,000 acres or more. I don't know, that's just my impression. please prove me wrong if i am. Also, aren't they two different species of deer? Northern and southern? I would think that sasks has bigger deer and are harder to hunt. --rossman
wtnhunt
Re: Comparing Texas and Saskatchewan [ QUOTE ] Also, aren't they two different species of deer? Northern and southern? I would think that sasks has bigger deer and are harder to hunt. [/ QUOTE ] Yes they are two different subspecies of deer. Think Sask the deer are so much bigger than in Texas, that a lot of very nice antlered deer are not as noticeable due to the huge body size in comparison to Texas. In other words take the same antlers on a buck from Texas and put them on a Sask buck, the antlers on the Texas deer would appear more impressive due to the considerably smaller body. If I ever had a choice to hunt either, Sask would be my choice.

rifleman25
Re: Comparing Texas and Saskatchewan Here is the website http://www.boone-crockett.org/ I can't find it but they uses to have a coloer coded map of the areas producing the most trophy's. You could also go to a librayr or a book store and check out the B&C book Records of North American Big game yourself. On the website they have a number for their office in Montana, a call to them might also help you out.
superguide
Re: Comparing Texas and Saskatchewan I need to find a link that I can cut and paste lol. Not every residant of Texas is like the good people on Realtree.
TexasDeerHunter
Re: Comparing Texas and Saskatchewan The majority of Texas is private ranches and limited public hunting. There are alot of big high fence operations, but they are not the majority. And there are some deer in parts of Texas that weigh in around 250-300lbs. On the whole , the Sask deer are bigger. TexasDeerHunter
Re: Comparing Texas and Saskatchewan Superguide, I can't find any info on it. You would think that someone out there would have a simple little data sheet with the states and a breakdown of the number of B&C deer from each. Have seen some magagine articles in the past, beleive it or not Texas nor Sask was on the top ten. I don't know about that , there are alota of mighty big bucks in both places. superguide
Re: Comparing Texas and Saskatchewan I thought they used to be 1 and 2 for that but maybe some midwest state passed them. There were 130 book deer in Sask. from '00 to '04 it just said in last Outdoor Life mag.
FSU_Seminole
Re: Comparing Texas and Saskatchewan Doesn't matter to me I want to hunt in both places. Both places have deer with huge racks but the deer in Canada have huge bodies.

okbowman
Re: Comparing Texas and Saskatchewan NO, most Texas hunting is not done on high fence ranches of 10,000 acres or more!! I grew up there and hunted all my life and never hunted a high fence place. Texas, just like a bunch of other states has a bunch of high fence places, but most hunters can't afford to even walk up and look through the fence!! Most of S. Texas as well as the rest of the state are free ranging whitetails!
