Last Thursday morning...just came home from work and was holding my son on the couch while my wife got ready for work. My dogs started flipping out...going from room to room when I happen to notice this guy walking out of the woods and going right down my drive. I managed to get the camera and take two pics. before my Rott barked and the bear took off! I'd put him in the "close to 200lb" range...what do you think?

Re: Visitor...

Cool pics, that is really close to the house. Not sure about the weight, but doesnt look like a real small bear, bet you are probably pretty close if not a little underestimating.

Supposed to be a black bear loose somewhere around here that supposedly wandered over from Arkansas.

Those two pics are of the same bear right?

Yeah John, same bear. That is what was nice...he looked big from the side view...then when he turned you can see that his ears looked big, which means he isn't as big as he looks. He was however long legged...so if he isn't killed this year, prob get much bigger!

Re: Visitor...

I'd say 200 lbs is a pretty good guess too. I bet that bear is still young enough to be with Mom too, and she probibly wasn't too far away. I've seen cubs stay with Mom for 3 or so years.

Those huge ears are the tell-tale sign of age alright. grin.gif Bears grow into their ears, and the older the bear gets, the smaller the ears look wink.gif

Snapper,

Where is Western PA are you??

[/ QUOTE ]

About 10 miles east of Indiana....you?

As far as how close he/she was to the house...we had one on the porch last fall. Next to being in the house...thats about as close as it gets. They really don't bother me...wife thought it was neat to watch as well. She says "Its so pretty"...I say "It will look prettier made into a rug and hanging on the wall". wink.gif
