You know your deer herd much better than we do, but a 7x6 that far outside the ears. . . if he gives you a good broadside shot at a distance you are comfortable at, do you really expect to see something bigger and get a better shot at it?? If so, then you should hold off, I guess.

I say no. For us Eastern hunters, yes, but since your in Saskatuwan no. Let him live 1 more year. If your seeing larger deer, that's a great sign. Managing your deer for mature bucks is not easy when you see a bruiser like that walk under your tree. Knowing there are biger bucks, I'd wait. Shoot a doe for meat and wait for the buck to mature 1 more year.

Unless of course, your finger slip on the release and ooops, he's dead!

Your call, brother. wink.gif

Personally, were I to have a crack at him here in PA I would take it. But your decision will be a product of your environment. If I knew there were (substantially) better deer in the same area, it'd be a harder call. Good luck whatever you choose.

Re: is he a shooter?

in the south were I live this is a huge deer, you can see 140 class deer often but with the wierd points he is unique and he will gross high, He will score better than I think for sure, I am confident I could get him pretty easilly but there are 2 bigger ones that I have not figured out quite yet,I just wnated soem imput,I would be super happy with him but with the other 2 I know they will make B&C and to get one with a bow is great! I am goign out tonight and if the bigger boys are in the same field and the bales have not been moved I will spend my time there,if not then I will go after this guy friday night, sat and monday!you all will be the first to hear what happens, keep a eye on my online journal! Thanks for the imput!

I know he is a good deer but I have seen quite a few bigger

From what you said and from what I hear about the potential in Catscratchawon, I'd let him walk. He's got great potential to be something really special, maybe even by next year. Down here in Virginia, different story. Just curious, how much pressure will he get from other hunters? In other words, if you leave him alone, what are his chances of "remaining upright" this season?

Re: is he a shooter?

If that buck walked under my Oklahoma stand... I'd shoot at him. Probably would miss because I was shaking so badly, but I'd take the shot if it was offered. However, in Ok that would be a monster. If you regularly see bigger deer, pass him up and wait for bigger. If you haven't seen bigger at the end of season and get another chance... take 'em.

Good luck, and thanks for the pics they gave me another case of the fever.
