Re: Salt Lick Placement

Dan, you opinion is valued, I would guess by all of us, just like your brother Jeff's is. Location is what the post was about in reality. The"Do you like them?" in the origonal post was more of a rhetorical "ice breaker" more than anything else but I could be wrong.

No rumbling here. The season is too close to for either of us to get hurt, especially our bow arms. LMBO

Peace Brothers!!!

Its quite obvious that many of you prefer to hunt salt licks - considering your reactions to the a contrary opinion. Salt licks should not be used. period. Any remember CWD??? Leave it in the truck.

Just my opinion or do we want to rumble....

[/ QUOTE ]

So, which is it? Salt should not be used period or is it just your opinion for what you choose to do?

Re: Salt Lick Placement

Its the right thing to do regardless of the law. Since unfortunately is not the law everywhere, its my opinion. Stirring the pot I see. Science is not irrelevant and opinion does not change it. The world was still round when Copernicous opinned to the contrary.

Harry: Title was "Salt Lick Placement"!

So that's why it's easier to kill deer in the mid west, you can use salt licks.... I really didn't think anyone used salt licks or any type of bait pile anymore.

As for you question: I would leave the salt lick in the truck because I would feel better about killing a deer without the use of bait.

But, to each his own!!!--rossman

To each his own? If you really felt that way, why make the derogatory post? frown.gif

Sorry Rossman, I'm tired of people who feel the need to slam others who are following the laws in their state solely because it's different from the way you choose to do things.

I don't see where anything is to be gained by doing that. frown.gif

Me either, and seems to me there has been more of a negative tone here lately by some members directed towards others, which really is a terrible shame.

So long as it is legal and you ethically dont have a problem with yourself being involved in using minerals, I would use them.

We have been using minerals here for a good while at one of our cams, and I have never shot a deer at the mineral sites.

Minerals have been legal in Tennessee for as long as I have hunted here. Have been hunting here since 1992. There are have been NO cases of cwd ever reported in this state. While I understand that if an uninfected animal comes in salivary contact with an infected animal or what the animal has left behind at a site that it may contract the disease, I think that is where the states dnr's are making those decisions to be proactive in deciding whether to allow the use of minerals and supplemental feedings.

Re: Salt Lick Placement

Very true. We all are in the game together. In New York, we found CWD last year (through the release of an injured doe who contracted it from the Taxidermy work at the same location) and salt licks, baiting, and the like can be a touchy subject at times (read thread above). We need to keep the animals spread out and not concentrated to reduce the saliva interaction. Hence, many small food plots around a property is better than one. If we lose the CWD war long term, we could lose hunting as we know it. Stopping the spread is paramount and we all need to think about it because you WILL get the disease in YOUR area very soon. Salt licks and the like may innocent enough but watch out, it could mess with all of us in the end!! Especially when they find out it may be possible to move to humans....

Hey, how about moving this to a CWD thread?? Is there one???

Happy hunting for now.

Mod: Lets end this post and move on to happier subjects.....
