Steven
Who has a case of OCD, no matter how minor, and what do you do? I constantly count quietly to myself. I always use numbers 1,2,3 or 1,3,5, they must be in groupings of 5 and pairs of 4 and the numbers must follow a pattern and the same number cannot repeat itself directly. Example: 2,1,3,1,2> 1,3,2,3,1> 3,1,2,1,3> 2,3,1,3,2 Then once I reach the end, I have to do it again in reverse in order to get back to the beginning. 2,3,1,3,2> 3,1,2,1,3> 1,3,2,3,1> 2,1,3,1,2 I've done this since I was about 12, I can't remember not doing it since then and I'm now 33. If I don't do it I'll think constantly about it and then have to count faster to get caught up. When I'm chewing food I use the 1,3,5 pattern. I'll chew 3 times on the right, 1 on the left, 5 on the right, 1 on the left and 3 on the right, and so on (right now I even feel a bit weird not finishing the explanation of the pattern, but I counted it out in my head, so i'll be alright). I was told once that if you talk about your little quirks with others that'll help to get rid of them- but I told my mom about this and she just said I was nuts and walked away. I also have to keep anything with a volume control on an even number- like my radio in my truck goes 1-25 and I keep it on 12 or 14 and my TV in my truck goes 1-100 and I keep it on 68. I have supressed it to the point I don't think about it unless somebody like Uncle Steven brings it up. LOL Mainly my is blinking or brushing my hands against something. tp793
Re: OCD? I do some things that if I dont do just bother me, i dont consider it OCD, just little things that bother. for example if its raining, when i turn off my car, the windshield wipers have to be all the way down or i have to restart the entire car and turn it off when they are down. another one is when im eating like skittles or M&M's i have to sort them by color, then eat them in order from greatest to least. the other one that gets me is when im waiting to turn in my car and my blinker doesnt match rhythm with the car in front of me, i turn my blinker off until they match and are synchronized. i dont consider it OCD just little things that bug me all day if i dont do. GWSmith
Re: OCD? All my button up clothes hanging in the closet have to have the top button closed and the hangers and clothes MUST be facing in the same direction. The underwear drawer must be in order: undershorts front left and right, crew socks back left, dress socks back right. The t-shirt drawer must be in order: colored t-shirts(tri-folded) left side-facing left 3 rows, right side-facing forward..white t-shirts(half folded) 2 rows. Anything inside out...not good...whole drawer gets refolded. Anything I put in the dirty clothes hamper...gets folded. Personally I dont see anything wrong with being that way....though I have gotten a few looks from my wife when I'm making sure that the shirts and pants are right side out and folded going into the dirty clothes Yet looking around my "computer room" you would be looking for the handle to flush it with...most disorganized room in the entire house It gets a good straightening up every 7-10 days(right now it looks like its working on day 11) ...and I cleaned it yesterday

Steven
Re: OCD? [ QUOTE ] Explain what is OCD? [/ QUOTE ] From the national Institute of Mental Health website: Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, OCD, is an anxiety disorder and is characterized by recurrent, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and/or repetitive behaviors (compulsions). Repetitive behaviors such as handwashing, counting, checking, or cleaning are often performed with the hope of preventing obsessive thoughts or making them go away. Performing these so-called "rituals," however, provides only temporary relief, and not performing them markedly increases anxiety.

Bond
Re: OCD? I count the syllables of sentences I say and sentences other people say. I used to not say anthing unless the syllables I was saying were in multiples of 5. I got over that though.

[/ QUOTE ] Wow..man..you are one screwed up cat... j/k I think everyone has a bit of OCD but just to what extent they do things makes it noticable. I doublecheck my lock on my locker at work because I have handguns in it and also check my office door when I leave. I also double check the doors to my residence at night or when I am leaving... for obvious reasons. I don't attribute this to OCD, just to being cautious. I guess the more "small" things you do like the signal light and windshield wiper thing, I would either break the habit by forcing myself and telling myself this is just ridiculous. Do you feel that something horrible will happen to someone you care about if you don't? I heard that is for those people who are truly suffering from OCD. buckee
Re: OCD? A girl that works for my wife has OCD really bad. She is a clean friek, and she has of course all thhese little(big) rituals she has to perform while she cleans. Well, one day she had her OCD ritual bath, and when she got out and dried off, she also had to rewash her hands, in a ritual type fashion. Right in the middle of it all, the landlord knocked on the apartment door. No big deal...right...she just continued the ritual washing and ignored the door. Well, the landlord opened up her door and hollaered for her...scaring her, and most disturbingly for her...cut her ritual in mid stride. Well, to keep a long story short, she frieked out, and almost had a nervious breakdown. We took her in for a few nights, until she could work up the courage to go home, and face the defiled germ pit (as she called it) We talked her into joining an OCD self-help class at the hospital. Funny thing with her is, she only does her OCD thing in her own place. When she's at our place, it's kept to a minimum. Even though she knows that, she can't control it. We do pray for her and are there for her, when she needs someone who won't poke fun, or cringe when she tells all the things she does. I've known a few people through my life that have it in varying degrees.

Jeramie
Re: OCD? I have a pretty bad case, seriously. Ive never been diagnosed but I know what it is. For years if I touched something with my left hand I had to then touch it with my right. Then I was out of order so I had to touch it with my right hand and then my left. That really messed things up because I had started the cycle with my left hand so I had to start all over with my right, etc..... It just kept going. To this day I have double and tripple check locks and such before I believe I locked it. Even then I often worry while im driving off. I double checked my gate as I drove off this morning. Im horrible about worrying about Irons and such too. I double and tripple check to be sure my gun isnt loaded, my broadheads are tight etc. You should see me haul a bunch of stuff on a trailer. I watch the trailer as much as the road! I also have to have things square. Anything off square on my desk drives me mad. I too keep the volume on my tv on even numbers and in my truck it goes by bars and half bars. I cant turn the volume to a half bar, it has to be full whether its to loud or to quiet.
