Analyze my hunting land

Take a look at this arial pic and let me know where you would hang a stand. The yellow circles represent deer stands or ground blinds. The magenta dots are well used deer trails and the red dots are rub lines. The blue circled areas are swamps that are pretty much dry. This is a 160 acre farm planted with corn this year. The wind is usually from the NW or North. The property has a mix of oaks, birch, popplar, and alder. I plan on hunting during the MN bow, shotgun and muzzleloader seasons. hunting111.jpg

Wow that is some of the best land I have seen. Lots of funnels here, lots of posibities to hang stands. Scout and figure out how the deer use the land and then hang your stands accordingly. That little strip of wood connecting two larger wood lots looks good for a rut stand location when bucks are on the prowl looking for hot does.

Well; I'd just hunt it like a coyote-poke along still hunting lots of edges and necks to hunt through. In the winter I sit till I get cold then still hunt till I warm up then sit a bit more. I'm not much for sitting all day-I like to take the game to the deer. It's amazing how close you can get to deer.

Re: Analyze my hunting land

I'd hunt the downwind side of the inside corners just inside the timber. The one above the homestead below the U-shaped swamp looks very good. The vertical line of trees left of the same swamp with the pasture on the other side has potential too I'd bet.

You also have to look at the bigger picture of off property travel routes to the property you hunt.

I really like the sliver of trees between the two large fields on the far right side. If a big buck wants to get to the other side he might travel the wood line as opposed to crossing the open fields.

great looking land, not to sure how your deer patterns run during the seasons. just from experience i know that mature bucks only appear in open areas with little cover when they have little pressure. possibly putting 1 stand at the northwest corner of your field just past the main trail would be a great location to catch early and late travel, as well as mid day cruising. i would possibly consider placing a stand at the tip between the rub line and the main trail just to the northwest of the middle swamp area. remember that a buck that is mature and territorial will be wearry of using his normal travel routes if he feels threatened. so find easy in and out access with as little trail distrurbance as possible. good luck!

Re: Analyze my hunting land

Welcome to Realtree. Great looking land...what part of MN are you?

I'd look at moving the stand on the top, middle to south of that trail as it seems the wind would be better. I'd also look between that rubline and that same trail, between the two swamps.

Good luck...looks like you've already got a good handle on things.

Re: Analyze my hunting land

First off...welcome to the forum.

Like ruttinbuc said I wish I could get a better idea of the big picture. I like to know how everything ties into the surrounding property's cover.

Like others have said you have a lot a natural funnels. I addition to your positions, I like the northeast corner where there appears to be a thicket with big timber close to the edge of the property. It looks like it ties into another woodline that creates a funnel there too.

I like the spot that ruttinbuc mentioned between the swamp and the northwest corner of the big field.

I also like where the western, larger swamp area ties into the north line where it appears a wooded line continues north of your property. A stand somewhere just east of the swamp and near your north line looks appealing to me too.

Love the land. Be happy to help you hunt it. I like the stand locations you have and I would also include one or two just of a rub line. Once the chase faze hits the big ones will be checking those area's. Your biggest problem is which stand. With so many good area's make sure you hunt the wind. Shouldn't have any problems getting a nice deer
