Rayzorp
Issue - I really want to get my 30 yard pin sighted in this year, but I have extremely limited access to a place I can shoot and practice at that distance. Hopefully I do and I get the 30 yd pin set. I can shoot 20 yrds in my backyard. Question - If I shoot at my target in my backyard using my 30yrd pin, ofcourse it hits a little high above the target bullseye. Can I use this spot as my marker for testing 30 yard shots? Perhaps test my site pin next year,, As always, any input is greatly appreciated Ray
shockwave
Re: Here\'s a good one, sighting question unless you can actually sight your 30 yard pin in i wouldn`t just " test ", it`s better to know your pins then to guess, and possibly wound a deer.. Rayzorp
Re: Here\'s a good one, sighting question Don't get me wrong, I would not even conceive using my 30 yrd pin unless I have sighted it correctly,, I was wondering if I could use this mark to "pre" sight it,, like I said, I have limited access to a 30 yrd shooting lane,, it would at least save me some time
GWSmith
Re: Here\'s a good one, sighting question Do you know what speed your Bow is shooting an arrow?
PAbowhunter4life
Re: Here\'s a good one, sighting question Dependant upon the speed of your bow, sighting in your 20 yard pin about 3-4" high or so "should" theoretically put you in the kill zone, but as mentioned, I don't suggest testing the theory for the first time in the woods
BowJoe
Re: Here\'s a good one, sighting question I have always thought about a target with several spots higher than the closer ranges. It would work but like they said, you have to know that your arrows are dead on before you know if you are hitting it correctly. Just measure your shot spacing and transfer that dot to your target at twenty yards. Just remember to aim with your 30 pin at the center of the target and not the new dot. This may hurt you in the woods as you may confuse the two.
Doc
Re: Here\'s a good one, sighting question Theoretically, if you change absolutely nothing about your bow set-up or shooting methods, you should have a consistant relationship between your 20 and 30 yard pin settings that you could use from one year to the next. I think that is what you are asking about...right? However, if you change broadheads, shafts, strings, cables, releases, and about a dozen other things that I am probably not remembering right now, all bets are off. Personally, I wouldn't chance it. Look for an archery club to join or some commercial shooting range that has a 30 yard capability. Most decent size towns or cities have them. jbeck
Re: Here\'s a good one, sighting question Hear ya go, take a portable target with you to were you hunt, and shoot 30 yards there. By haveing your 30 yard pin dead on, you can then use the spot reference like you said. I would still shoot at the target where you hunt on a regular basis. Straight Shooter
Re: Here\'s a good one, sighting question I believe what your asking is if you sight inyou bow at another location at 30 yards and you shoot back at your house with your limited diestance can you still rely on the arrow hitting just above your bullseye at 20 yards. Yes, it'll be just fine, it'll just hit high like you said, it's no different thatn having a 40 yard pin and holding it on the bullseye at 30 yards. But, Doc pointed out that changing anything can and will will change the point of impacts, unless it's going from field tips to mechancial heads. But I'd still check that out just in case.
