Sight-In cleaning question.

My dad just got a Knight DISC Extreme, our first muzzleloader, and were not sure on how to do a proper quick range cleaning while sighting in. We're using Triple Seven pellets so it should be easier. What is the best way to clean while sighting in with a muzzleloader? How often do I clean while sighting in? We won't be able to prefoul the barrel before hunting so we need accuracy with a totally clean barrel.

Re: Sight-In cleaning question.

Last year I tried some of the foaming bore cleaners on the market and they work extremely well. Cleaning at the range was just a matter of squirting the stuff in the bore, waiting a few mintes and running a patch down the bore. It was spotless even after that nasty Triple 7. It got rid of the crud ring the first time and I did not even have to use a brush. I popped a couple primers before loading the next charge as the chamber area will hold enough moisture to make the powder charge a dud. A few primers will dry the moisture and make the next load go bang.

Re: Sight-In cleaning question.

Typically I do a spit patch and then a dry patch between shots.

I do hoppes #9 solvent patch, then a few dry patches around every 6th or 7th shot or when it starts getting tough to push the sabot down. Especailly in the crud ring area...

I do the spit patch dry patch because its easy to do when out in the field. Never run out of spit. LOL

I dont use the bore foam until I am done for the day.
