AJ
I was in a gun shop that dealt with higher end stuff and was checking out the Zeiss Conquest. The dealer told me to go outside with it and look across the street. I compared the Conquest, Vari-X III, VX-III, Leica, Kales, and Swarovski. All scopes were in the 3-10x50mm size. You could see a difference in the visual acuity between a $500 scope and a $750 scope. Now are they worth it? That depends on the shooter. mitrrophybowhunter
Re: My thoughts on Swarovski scopes. How about yours? Maybe I am crazy but I do not see the need to spend 800-1200 dollars on a rifle scope. The leupold VAR X II and the Burris furfield and busnell elite are very fine scopes and offer very very good quality. I can buy two rifles with Burris furfields ( my favorite ) for the price he paid for one rifle with a swarovski!!! I guess to each is his own though! AJ
Re: My thoughts on Swarovski scopes. How about yours? [ QUOTE ] AJ, which one looked the best? [/ QUOTE ] Actually, the clarity followed price. I could see pretty well with all of them. The Swarovski, Kales, and Leica I could make out more detail than I could with the rest. I was looking at a wooden privacy fence with all scopes. The fence was about 150-175 yards away. I could see decent detail with all but I could see the screw heads with the high $ (over $600)scopes. Maybe thats why I tend to favor higher power scopes, I can use a 14x on a cheaper scope to see what I could with a 10x high $ scope. But the exit pupil goes down as magnification goes up, so light gathering ability goes down too. A 10x Swarovski is a sweet scope. I own a Premier Reticle (custom Leupold) 14-35x50 Leupold and a Burris Black Diamond. They are fairly close but when compared to the top end stuff, it was a lot different. EKYhunter
Re: My thoughts on Swarovski scopes. How about yours? Thanks AJ. I've been considering a Zeiss Conquest 4.5x14x44 for my Browning A Bolt. Maybe I'll check in to using lay away and get a Khales or Swarovski. doubleA
Re: My thoughts on Swarovski scopes. How about yours? evilcatfish....you say..."In my opinion Swarovski rifle scopes are over priced crap. The ones I have seen and been able to shoot with (none were my own) seemed to not have a better sight picture than a simmons or tasco" I have to agree and disagree with what you posted. Yes, Swarovski's are over priced...(but then again,so are alot of things) but in no way shape or form are they crap. Maybe you need to go out in the woods and actually use them in hunting situations. I have and can atest to their superior optics. I own Zeiss, Swarovski, Leupold, Nikon, Weaver, Redfield, Burris and Bushnell scopes. Put side by side out in a deer blind(which I have done) the Swarovshi and Ziess are clearly...(pun intended!) head and shoulders above the rest. It simply amazing to me that some folks are quick to bash the high end scopes and praise junk like Simmons and Tasco. To close, looking through your buddies gun on the rifle range or looking out the window of your favorite sporting goods store is not a good test for rifle scope. Try getting out and do some real hunting and you will most likely change your mind. doubleA
robk
Re: My thoughts on Swarovski scopes. How about yours? my take on this is simple ifyou want the high dollar toys then so be it go get them. i have looked at them and some of the lower end stuff and to be honest the difference was not that much if any. i have looked a swaroski and they are nice but over a grand nice? i have looked at other mid range scopes and can honestly say this in my opinion you can save the money and buy the middle of the road stuff and get high quality equipment for your hunting. i will probably never own the swaroski or some of the other high end stuff as i can't afford it no matter what and with the technology out today they are making much better for less money and the warranty is as good there as it is with the high end stuff as well. don't get me wrong if i had the money i would definately buy them but if you don't have the money you can find good quality and high end performance in the middle of the road equipment rob k
shotupdeer
Re: My thoughts on Swarovski scopes. How about yours? You get what you pay for. My BAR has a leupold vari-x III 3.5-10x50, and my 710 has the Bushnell. The difference is night and day. My .30/30 has a $30 Tasco 4x I got from walmart. We won't even compare the picture quality of that to the Leupold.
Chrud
Re: My thoughts on Swarovski scopes. How about yours? I like Nikon myself. I don't want to spend much over $350 for a rifle scope. Never had the opportunity to look through a Swarovski. I have just about had the opportunity to take a Tasco and throw it at a building. I would never spend the $40 on a Tasco ever again. strubedog
Re: My thoughts on Swarovski scopes. How about yours? I think Field and Stream just had a review of ziess conquest. It basically said optics are great but couldn't hold zero
