Jeramie
She is now a proud Stamp Pusher at the USPS. She has been on the top 12 to hire list around here for about a year. They called her yesterday to tell her she had a job if she wanted it. She had turned down several that were roughly 50 miles away. This one popped up 10 miles from the house and she jumped on it. She has to work weekends (every week) which will hamper my hunting to some degree. I have to stay home and keep the baby on occasion. Her mom is going to pitch in and watch the baby so I can hunt but it will still damper things in the end. She did however get a $4.50 raise! She will start on October 1st at just under $18 and hour. Within a year or two she should be over $20. Full benefits, retirement, investments, etc. Her pay scale tops out in the upper $20's and she can always get a bump to another position. A friend of hers is a post master and when she finishes her 20-years (for retirement) she will have over 1-million in the bank because she used the retirement and such to the maximum degree. I know my wife will get sick of the weekends but the pay increase and the fact that she can be taken off my insurance will bring in another $500 a month. All and all she is pretty excited. The really good news is that she is going to work for several more years. Recently she had been talking about quitting in a year and being a stay home mom. While I know that has its benefits, paying things off and being debt free by our mid to late 30's is going to be priceless!

popgun
Re: My wife took a new Job. Tell your wife congratulations for me. My best advice would be not to make any complaints or waves for the next ninety days during the probation period. She will certainly learn what the term "Part Time Flexible" means. Not only can she say bye-bye to weekends, she can also say bye-bye to most holidays. It ain't fun around Christmas time in the Post Office. Someone always has to sort the mail. At least as a Carrier (35 years), I was insured of having Sundays and Holidays off. I wish her the very best of luck. I hope she has a good Postmaster. Also be sure and tell her to take no sick days or come in late days, or gotta take the kids to school etc. days until her probation is finished. If she needs any tips on how to survive the workload, drop me a pm. A good suggestion would be to make her a nice private, sound-proof room where she can come home, and relax, and scream to her little hearts content. ....popgun

Many people are trying to get hired into that office because of the womans attitude. I guess she is really great.

gone_postal
Re: My wife took a new Job. Jeramie..."Gone Postal"here LOL Tell your wife congrats on the new job! I've been in it for 28 yrs. now,and it's been good to be and my family........I'm a part time flex clerk, and my job takes me ALL over the area working! I,too, hope your wife has a good and fair Postmater to work with....that will make ALL the difference at the end of the day May I ask what position she was hired for?? Up here, it is very difficult to get in full time, but I'm still hoping for that someday!! Yes, Popgun is right,if she is in a small office, Saturdays are required, if a larger office, it wil be holidays, but in the end it's all good!! PM me if she has any questions! Good luck to her!! Jeramie
Re: My wife took a new Job. I believe its a Sales Clerk. She has to work both Saturday and Sunday but her post master was really good about it. She said if she needed or even wanted off to just say so and she would gladly work the weekend without recourse. Im sure my wife has a few questions. Ill email her and pm those that offered.... Thanks for the warm wishes gang.
