Are we speaking about the same Oklahoma?

Oklahoma is being labeled as a "Sleeper State" because of some of the northen and western counties.

I have seen some HUGE bucks in Deleware county but have yet to lower the boom on a B&C or P&Y.

Actually you would be amazed at the Oklahoma Bucks on the two sets of books. We have the Genetics, just not the wildlife department to inforce a point rule and allow those critters to grow.

I agree that we haev the ability to be a great deer state. We are just light years behind other states. Also, I dont really feel that a point restriction will help all that much. We are an "opportunity" state. That is the ODWC at play. We would need to change our vision to become a "quality" state. Bag limits would need to change, education would need to increase and the mentatlity of this state would need to change.

However, seeing shows like Dream Season film in Oklahoma, as well as Bass Pro Shops Hunting show filiming a few hunts here is a step in the right direction.

It will just take time.

I hunt in the panhandle, (Texas county). I would like to see the Wildlife department issue Rifle and Muzzleloader Mule deer tags by draw only. I see tons of awesome whitetails killed every year, but most of the Muleys being killed are forks and 2.5 yr old 6 points. I was watching 3 different young bucks last year and opening morning of rifle all three were killed. The biggest was a six but very narrow and not too tall. I would like to see the Mule deer regulated tougher than the Whitetail.

i totally agree that Oklahoma can grow some big deer. But it is not that often that a deer is allowed to grow to be 4.5 or older. i hunt in Ellis county out near the panhandle, there are several big deer shot out here every year. to grow bigger deer i think we need to do several things first decrease the number of bucks allowed per season form 3 to 2. Then we need to make our gun season longer. in texas there gun season will last from 60-65 days so if you go out and don't see a mature deer you know that you have a very long seanson in which to continue your hunt while here in OK our gun season only last 15 day so a guy that gets a chance to go out and hunt is more likely to shoot a small buck with only a 15 hunting season as opposed to a 65 day season. This is just my opinion tell me what you think

Re: hunt in oklahoma

my opinon on this, is its getting harder and harder to grow big bucks unless you have a lease or private land, couse like you said some states only have a few weeks to hunt and i think most hunters nowadays are looking for meat instead of horns, so they will shot the frist buck they see, unfortunately most of the yr to two yr olds get shot at this time, some of our counties in ark have a four point rule 4 points on one side to try to get the deer to the age of 4 plus, realy cant tell you if its working or not ark isnt know for big deer to start with, but maybe one day we might get to where some of the other states are.
