My Five Points *(Pic)*

Our Season opened on the 20th. I talked the wife into letting me slip away after we got back from Beaver lake. A buddy of mine called, called, and called wanting to get out so we set up to get out early.

It was pretty cold that morning (probably in the 30's). We hunted a back pasture we call the "U-pasture," Due to the shape of the timber around it. It was closed off from the cattle because we still had a 100 or so round bales on the field.

Daybreak rolled out and it sounded like world war 3 on the neighbors property. I decided to set up in the middle of the 50 acre field in case they pushed anything out. From there I would have a 200yrd or less shot in all directions. I was just resting against a round bale and using it to break up my outline. My buddy was sitting in a round bale that had been destroyed by a few renegade cattle that had broken in.

At roughly 7:20 I heard a few more shots and I saw two does sprint into the field (roughly 130 yards away). They came out of a small patch of timber in the corner of the field. I immediately gave them a mouth bleat to get them to stop. I put my cross hairs on the shoulder of the second doe and squeezed off. Somehow I missed, very odd. Im shooting a 30-06 and its usually a tack driver out to 200-250 yards. I was even using the bale as a rest.

They turned and began to run to my left. I bleated again to get them to stop. They did but didn't offer a great shot. It was almost straight on. I know my rifle and what im capable of so I put the cross hairs on the same does chest (in case I actually hit her the first time). Boom. She heart kicked and they began running directly at me (at the bleat).

I quickly got positioned and waited to get a finishing shot. I let my scope fill up with hair from the first deer and then waited for it to move and fill again with the second deer. The second shot sent her sliding through the grass. She stopped a mere 18 yards from where I stood. If you notice the hole, both shots went in the exact same location and exited almost the exact same location. Believe it or not it destroyed her lungs, liver, and heart but never touched her stomach or bladder!

The grass was wet and somewhat frosty. You could see every track from where things had been walking/ running. The second doe literally ran within a couple feet of where I was standing. I hadn't noticed because I was trying to finish off my doe. We laughed about it later.

Sorry this is the dreaded "pickup truck" pic. I had already checked her in and loaded her countless times (gutting, etc). I was getting a little tired of packing her around. She dressed out at 72lbs. Great eating!

Re: My Five Points *(Pic)*

Yeah, I've hunted behind/around/between hay bales often with some success. Once watched a coyote use them to his advantage. He jumped up on top of a round bale that was on a knoll and just watched the field.

Congrats on the doe and fillin' up the freezer!
